Ghoul Stones

Good Day All!

While riding an elevator, today, equiped with a TV (aren't they all?) I misread some of the text. What my mind saw was Ghoul Stones.

That sounded kind of cool and got me wondering - What would Ghoul Stones be and what would they do?

Anyone care to take a stab and describe something like this as it would exist in your world?

Mods - if this type of thing should be in "House Rules" please accept my apology...

hmm...perhaps the holder of the stone looks/smells/moves/etc like a ghoul...maybe the stone grants the user control of any ghouls in the area...a ghoul stone, ground into a powder that is then mixed with a drink, slays the drinker, turning him into a ghoul...or perhaps the same powder will turn a ghoul back into a human...New! Stone Miniatures! Get your very own Ghoul!

First thought, a stone that when thrown or shot with a sling, causes paralyzation. Possibly could then cause the victim if killed by the stone to rise as a ghoul. Maybe created by an uber-intelligent (what 15 or so) ghoul or ghast necromancer, and given to his army of ghouls (properly trained, of course), as ranged attack option before they charge in and attack (eek gads, giving ghouls real tactics is evil).

I could use something like that. ;)

One way would be as a warning totem: The stone in hand burned with a coldness of death, telling the cleric that ghouls were in the area.

Another is a stone that appears and turns the area into a ghoul lands: The plane of the lich lord touches the material plane on the night of the blood moon, during that night three stones formed, the paladins of the holy order were able to find two in time but the third did it's horrible work, the grass died, the trees twisted, the people became ghouls, hunting for those not changed, speading their illiness...

Stones used to bait ghouls and ghasts for undead hunters. They smell of rotting flesh. Beware of ankhegs. :]

Rocks from a ghoul lair over 5oo years old. Grind them and anything that consumes the dust becomes a ghoul.

Carved stones from churches that worship the god of undead. The stones protect (in terms of turning) undead that wear them around their neck (on a string).

There are rl legends of stones who consume the souls of anyone who stands in their shadow. Perhaps a Ghoul stone goes one better - anyone caught in their shadow is paralysed and then their flesh dissolves and is sucked in by the bright red stones...
