If it was based on size, yes, that should be the case.
But it is against Giants. They have a knack for defending against them, probably because they are more or less "natural" enemies in their home region.
They know how to dodge a Giants attack. But a Giant attack is different from a Dragon attack, or the attack of a Beholder...

Er, I'm sure that this is wrong. The Augmented subtype is only to show that the creature might have features that are not normally available to the new type.
