Giants in the Earth

Paizo's new fiction line will be reprinting several of Leigh Brackett's Eric John Stark novels, starting with "The Secret of Sinharat/People of the Talisman" in November. If you haven't read them, I strongly recommend them. It's a crime Brackett isn't better known than she is.

Very cool, Erik. I've always wanted to read some of her work; alas, the only work of hers with which I'm really familiar is "The Empire Strikes Back". (Any wonder why most fanboys consider this to be the best of the SW movies? Lucas got an actual writer to do the script...)

Her Eric john Stark books are wonderful (and were published in the original "Planet Stories" magazine, making them a nice match for our line). Of all the writers we are republishing, Brackett is my second favorite (my first being C.L. Moore). Interesting that both of them are women writing at a time when men completely dominated the genre.

She's of relatively more recent vintage, but have you read the works of Patricia McKillip?

I think reviving the fictional character conversions, and including them in the Conversion Library, would be a nice addition to the site.

I think that might cross the line between internet discussion and "publishing" (which is a hairy difference at best, these days).

However, there are some exceptions to that. ShadowJack's stats as a 60th level character are reasonable, given that by the end of the story he's basically a god.

According to my 1e L&L you can begin divine ascension at ca 9th level (if the average NPC is 5th) and become a demigod around 15th level. This is supported by the listed demigod stats.

Have you read the novel?

Do you know what Shadowjack is capable of accomplishing by the end of the story? Let's just put it this way, in most peoples campaigns, 15th level characters are not capable of altering the rotation of a planet and changing the physical laws of the universe. In most people's campaigns, greater gods would be hard pressed to do that.

hurrah!
