I was thinking on creating a half-fiend character. but I think that my dm may show me THE finger when I bring this up. can you guys give me some tips on how to get her into accepting the dark one? I'm even available to drop some of the bonuses

Depends on if their reason is mechanic related, or RP-related.

If the former, then discussing changing of abilities is a good start. If it's the latter, and you're in say- a good-aligned campaign- then it's probably a bad idea. Also if it doesn't fit well with the setting, etc.

Could you be a bit more specific with your DM's likely objections?
What level is your character supposed to be starting at (specifically, is this an issue)?

Usually when I disallow a race it is due to the flavor of the campaign, not the mechanics. If that's the case, dropping bonuses isn't going to help. You need to come up with a very solid reason:

1. How your parentage occurred
2. How you fit into society as a child
3. How you were raised
4. If raised extraplanar, how did you get here
5. How did you come to be accepted among your fellow party members

usually it's because this kind of characters tend to become a wee bit too strong. We had a vampire once, and he was too damn strong.

we usually start at lvl 4. My character would've been "kicked out" of his plane for trying to kill the plane's imperor. about the becoming accepted by the party., we usually start as strangers to each other and join forces through the campaign so that wouldn't be an issue. Nashtok (its name) would travel in our world wearing a dark cape and a Noh mask to hide his face. he was born after a raid to a human village, where several women were kidnaped

What's the reason you want to be a half-fiend? Mechanical or RP-reasons (or both)? If RP, could you do a similar idea with a different race? Maybe you could come up with a compromise with the DM ("my character would be the son of two half-fiend parents, sent away for only having more traits of a purebred human than a fiend... though humans reject me for having any traits of a fiend at all...")

We were all around lvl 6 in that campaign with the vampire

Well, that appears to be the problem right there. The vampire template has a Level Adjustment of +8, which means that, say, a 1st level human fighter with the template is the equivalent of a 9th level character. If you weren't making the vampire pay the LA for the template, then it's no wonder you thought it was strong.

Were you using a Savage Species type progression for the Vampire (can't remember if there's one in the actual book or not). A vampire is LA +8, so there's no way a full vampire should be allowed in a 6th level party as-is.

Likewise, a half-fiend in a 6th level party should only have 2 levels of any class (+4 LA). In other words, a Fighter 2 Human with the Vampire Template is a 6th level (effective character level) character. It's a dangerous proposition.
