Giving potions to unconscious characters

Nearly got another one.

Here's what happened. On the way to a village to kill a dragon the group found a grove surrounded by plants. The fighters character was the only one to go in (even though all the other group members decided it was too suspicious), and was promptly attacked by two topiary lions  . They took him down in two rounds. The wizard used mage hand to telekinese healing potions to him, so I made him roll Dex checks to get them in the mouth properly. Failed the first two :heh: , so I ruled the potions went into the lungs  . Fortunately, the fighters char managed to cough them out (made his Fort save, I set it at DC 15). The char was at -9, and the 3rd potion only did 2 points healing, so he was still laying there unconscious with the topiaty lions waing to pounce if he should make any threatening moves.

Fortunately, another character decided to step in and drag him out, and was able to beat the topiary lions initiative. Then, to teach him a lesson they stripped him naked and tied him to a tree :D .

1. Mage Hand can't move magic stuff.
2. Swallowing is a reflex that can be done unconscious.
3. Liquid in the lungs is not what drowns you.. it's the lack of oxygen.

Correct on all counts, but lets go over this anyway, hmmm?

1. Mage Hand Target: nonmagical unattended object. From a players point of view I could argue that the potion bottle is nonmagical and the spell effect isn't touching to potion itself.
2. Sure it can, but I would think a person wouldn't be able to swallow everything if it is just dumped down theit throat.
3. How long does it take for the oxygen to run out? I think about 3 minutes or so on average, so maybe I jumped the gun a little. Fortunately, in both instances the players didn't mind. In fact, the first player thought it was hilarious for his character to die by healing potion.

I understand that with a carefree game these things are no big deal. That's why I made sure not to include any sort of 'smackdown' comment. :)
Not my style of play, but as long as everyone is happy it's all good.

going to start equating Syringes of Bears Endurance and Haste to drugs!!!

That would be cool. People could start getting addicted to the potions and if they didn't get their fix, they might lose a point of Con for Bears Endurance or be Slowed if they didn't get their Haste potion on time. You know, with all the potions of cure x wounds that are being drunk, you'd think one of the more evil cults would have started making them addictive.

"Dude, dude, why you drinking that Potion of Cure Light? You just woke up and you're not injured!"
"Need more Cure Light. Need more Cure Light. Give me a Cure Light!"

I SOOOO need to put this in my next campaign.

Herpes!

What kind of addiction would potion of fire breathing get you.......damn! All that fire breathin would have to give you mouth and throat burns. You would effectively have red dragon herpes :D

Dont forget the Cure Lights coated Heavy Mace. A PC Cleric loved to swing that thing while yelling "Be Healed". The mage eventually took offense to the repeated concussions and turned the cleric into a red smear at the dungeon exit.
