Gladiators! Session recap and new Champion posted May 3

Hey this sounds like fun, I'll make one soon.

How is the game going, it would be cool to see some posts about the game development also. Like special arena's, suprises NPC's stuff like that.

Any way my gladiator will be here soon.

Andropinus always begins a fight with endurance and mage armor upon himself. The first action he takes is hasting himself then using invisibility w/ the partial action. Afterwards he follows up with shield and mirror image upon himself. Then depending upon his opponent he starts w/ his attack spells. Usually trying to strip away the opponents strength w/ ray of enfeeblement followed and a blindness/deafness on the same round. Then a mirror image for defense, and a major image of whatever suites his needs at the time (usually mimicing a conjuration or evocation spell). If opponents close in for melee, he starts with his poison spell-like ability followed up w/ his burning hands spell.
Andropinus appears as a striking gold elf, w/glossy black hair and red eyes from edge to edge. His skin is deepply bronzed and he the hint of scales is on the back of his hands and shoulders. (Basically he looks like the fey'ri from monsters of faerun sans wings).

Signature Move: Grip of death, Andropinus uses his vampiric touch upon a weakened foe to draw the life force from them, strengthening himself.

I didn't notice this thread before... I might just make myself a gladiator... could I use the Minotaur monster class from the Savage Species Preview? Please? :D

Stone Angel: We have only played one session so far, but it was really fun.

The setting is a smaller province's arena ( the campaign may move to larger venues if our stable is successful !), with several support services nearby ( gladiator housing, blacksmith, armor repair, weapons shop, temple healers that will help for "donations" etc... )

The stable master of our new gladitorial company was basically blackmailed for "protection money" from a well established local company. He said "no", and his refusal got us in real trouble! In our first event, the four of us had to "recreate" a historic battle ( ala Gladiator the movie) against two chariots ( 2 horses, a driver & a spearman on each) and 6 archers.

It was supposed to be a slaughter, but Toluk took out most of the archers by himself, and all four of us left the arena alive to fight again.

The games themselves are very well regulated, with government wizards making sure spell effects do not spill into the crowd, etc...

------
pyric_lust: Acolyte of the Skin from Tome and Blood, eh? Nice stuff.

Makes me want to play!

Why cast invisibility if you are going to cast mirror image immediately afterwards?

------

psychognome: Sure! Why not? Let's see it! I have a LOT of great Minotaur pictures too, so I'd be glad to make a Wordfile of your charachter for you if you post one!

Non-core Sources: Dragon Magazine 303 (Dirty Fighting Feats)

Nizaam is a selfish and cruel bastard, who has never met a coin he didn’t like. Confident in his combat style, he figures he can make some quick money in the arena to supplement his income.

Known to most only as “Mister X”, Nizaam attempts to keep his face covered at all times. Nizaam will cross his daggers into an “X” as he enters the arena. His favorite tactic is to pull animals from his Bag of Tricks, and then sneak attack from behind while his opponent is occupied.

Signature move: After finishing off an opponent, Nizaam will cut an “X” into the body of his opponent with his two punching daggers, then whip around in a circle, swirling his cloak.

OK, in the next few posts, I am now going to add some NPC "champions" of the arena that can be used as enemies/opponents etc... for the PC's. These champions will be of higher level, and have more $ for magic items, but I still used the same (30pt buy) method for ability score generation.

I was inspired to create this one after reading Owen Stephens' "Bastards & Bloodlines", a new Green Ronin book. Great Stuff ( go buy it )! Most of the Templates are far stranger than a half-goblin. The artwork posted here is by James Ryman (http://www.jamesryman.com/) who did many of the illo's for the book. The book is B&W - I lifted this one from his site...

Name: Kromak Ftr 6, Pit Ftr 2
Small Half-Goblin (Human)

Hit Dice: 6d10 + 2d10 + 16 = 62 hp
Initiative: +7 (+3 Dex, +4 Improved Init)
Speed: 30 ft.
AC: 23 (+3 Dex, + 5 Studded Leather Armor {+2}, +3 Small Steel Shield {+2} +1 Armor Adjustment (Pit Fighter) +1 Size; 24 with Dodge
Attacks: +14/+9 Melee: (+8/+3 BAB +1 Size Bonus +2 Str +2 Short Sword +1 Weapon Focus)
Damage: 1d6+6/1d6+6 (+2 Str +2 Short Sword +2 Weapon Specialization)
Special Attacks: Skewer; on a successful hit with a piercing weapon, and a successful opposed strength check, automatic damage will occur in each round that the opposed strength check is won, Weapon Sense; Can use any weapon at only -2 even if non-proficient
Special Qualities: Battle Sense – can’t be caught flat footed, Low-Light & Darkvision 60’, +4 Hide, +2 Listen Racial Bonuses
Saves: Fort +10, Ref +5, Will +2
Abilities: STR 14, DEX 16, CON 14, INT 12, WIS 10, CHA 10
Skills (modified): Bluff +6, Climb +5, Escape Artist +8, Hide +10, Intimidate +4, Jump +5, Listen +6, Sense Motive +4, Spot +4, Tumble +4
Feats: Dodge, Endurance, Exotic Weapon Proficiency (Kurki & Whip Dagger), Weapon Focus, Weapon Specialization
Alignment: Lawful Neutral
Possessions: Studded Leather Armor +2, +2 Small Steel Shield, +2 Short Sword, Kurki, Whip Dagger
Height: 3’10”
Weight: 53 pounds
Non-core Sources: Bastards & Bloodlines (Half Goblin Template), Path of the Sword (Pit Fighter PrC), Sword & Fist (Whip Dagger)

Even though Kromak was larger than most of the Goblins in his tribe, he was constantly ostracized and hazed due to his human heritage. Impatient for a better life, Kromak left home by the age of thirteen.

While Kromak did not exactly find unqualified acceptance on his journeys, he did find a place where he could utilize the best of his skills, and be greatly rewarded for them. The Arena. Now a well respected champion, Kromak feels he has put his past behind him, and truly believes himself to be a “good” person. Truth be told, his only friends are his fellow gladiators, and those gamblers he has won money for. Although he is fiercely loyal to them, they would not hesitate to shun him should his luck in the games turn for the worse.

A threat with practically any weapon, Kromak acquits himself well in almost any fighting situation.

Signature move: You don’t want to take his size or Kromak’s skill with his short sword lightly. Most of his opponents end up skewered by his shiny blade.

Beldak keeps his past to himself, but it is rumored that he was once a slave who won his freedom years ago at a gladiatorial event in a far away city. Even though Beldak was now “free”, he did not have any desire to stop fighting. He loves battle, and if he gets paid for it, all the better. Living life in the moment is what is important to Beldak, and he lives each day like it is his last, with a loud greeting and a kind word for everyone he meets.

The nickname “Dark-eyes” was originally a joke coined by a halfling friend, Genling, who would always complain about having conversations with Beldak’s kneecaps. Genling now serves as Beldak’s valet.

Beldak has become so popular that he can pick and choose his matches now. The home town crowd loves him, and he always has time to listen to the flattery of an ardent fan. The loudest cheers in the arena are most usually for him.

The big half-ogre also works with several promising young gladiators who gladly pay him big commissions from their winnings for the honor of learning from such a well respected champion. Rarely, he also hires himself out for private engagements or bodyguard work for some rich noble.

Signature move: Beldak loves to tire out his opponents while fighting defensively. He is also known for laying low several opponents in a matter of seconds.
