Now, I'm curious: What are you doing with glaives in real-life?
Heh, I meant more that I love how they look, etc. I would love to own one one of these days, though obviously I'd need to explore prices and the legality of having a polearm in my house. Would be more menacing to a burglar than a mere baseball bat, I reckon.

More menacing, but less useful. It's not that great in hallways and the like especially if you aren't an expert. (Now a sword OTOH...) For that matter, reach weapons always worked better in mass combat than one on one.

Dont forget also that PHB3 has a new feat coming out "Haft defence" (or something like that) which gives +1AC&Reflex when weilding Polearms or Quarterstaff.

Use a glaive with HBO, PolearmGamble, BladeOpprtunity and the equivelent of a light shield? Yes please.

Or use with Two-Weapon Fighting, Two-Weapon Defense, and Staff Fighting... Jummy!

Of course, that's a lot of investment, and some benefits might not even stack. :)

I personally would love to see a few "Staff" Fighter powers. And maybe some for the Ranger, too. Didn't Robin Hood or at least Brother Tuck occassionally use the Staff as a weapon, or was this just in the Disney comic of Robin Hood I read many years ago?

Thanks for all of the suggestions! Martial Power 2 has made a lot of weapons have some nice selling points, I see.

MP2 has some very nice bonuses, too, granted by combat styles. Steel Vanguard's crit range bonus for two handed heavy blades makes the Falchion an excellent choice if you want to save a feat compared to using a Fullblade for it. I suppose Glaive would work, too, as it IS a two handed heavy blade, but the lack of high crit makes it less interesting in that regard. It, however, qualifies for the Partisan style, which isn't so bad itself.

Paragon path wise, Snow Tiger is nice for Katar.

No, Little John and Robin did indeed duel with staves. Tuck may of, but all I remember him using was a cudgel. Robin met both men as adversaries, and in many versions, they joined under his leadership despite him actually failing to best them in combat.

You can do a pretty good build with spear and shield. Its not quite on a par with some of the other builds, but it isn't shabby. There will always in any system be a few builds that are a little ahead of others.

The best fighter I ever played with in 4e. . .probably the best defender. Maybe even the best character, was a trident+shield elf fighter. He was super, super effective at defending. It depends on your metric, I guess, because he wasn't doing off-striker damage, but he didn't need to. We had an optimized Rogue for that. Great party all around, actually. . .
