Gno more gnomes?

As I see it, like it or not, the game's most recognizable character is a drow.

I felt a great disturbance on the web. As though millions of haters cried out in terror, and then were suddenly silenced.

Oh, and while I don't like gnomes being kicked out of the core team, I won't cry for half-orcs, should they be cut from the roster.

I actually wouldn't mind if half-orcs and half-elves were both cut as separate races entirely. Since it looks like races are going to get their own "level progression" you might be able to let half-elves pick between the human and elf progressions and half-orcs pick between human and orc progressions.

Hmmm, now that would make sense. The idea of a tiefling as a base class just makes me sick though. I hate the idea of tieflings and assimar as characters, of course I don't usually run my games with much plane hoping either, so, it would make sense for me not to include them. I just hope that with the idea of racial leveling that they don't remove the gnome or half-orc to the point that they can't effectively be replaced under house rules. Likewise I hope the don;t make the half- (dragon, demon, outsider, djinn, etc.) so integral that they can't be removed.

Other than that I haven't seen anything that immediately makes me hate the new edition.

baseball sucks, so do gnomes.

It's supposed to be a new edition, so why stick with all of those old socks?
Gnomes have been superflous in every edition of the game they were in.

He said "most recognizable" - and by definition, all the haters are adding to the recognition. :)

I, personally, have always liked gnomes. I don't think a race has to have a well-defined and defended niche to be interesting to play.

There's no official announcement as to the which one it is, but most people are betting on the gnome, since we don't really need two small races.
How the watered down kender that is the 3E halfling wins this contest boggles the mind. They'd have been better off merging both short races together, taking the best fluff from each, merging the pantheons and making the difference between a magical gnome and a less-magical halfling a matter of which 4E racial abilities are chosen for each character.
