That exactly why I would love to see gnomes rolled over into 4th Edition, it's the perfect time for them to give gnomes a makeover and give them more depth than they've had in previous editions.
Yeah, time for the gnomes to get their tatoos and piercings! :heh:

Just goes to show how different people's experiences are. I've seen lots of dwarves, and I know lots of people who like them. In fact, I think I've seen more dwarves as PCs than elves in the 3E era.

I actually never saw many elves in actual play. I've seen a few halflings/gnomes aside from what I play. I've not seen a dwarf in our playgroup in a long time.

Heck, even given the fact they're built for heavy armor with tons of benefits, just like clerics, they don't see a lot of play.

(Heck, I have actually played more changelings than dwarves. :)

Anyway, my main point wasn't to kill dwarves, so much as listening to the folks that hate gnomes isn't as representative as it might seem. I'd rather the game add options rather than removing them.

The funniest thing about all the WoW comparisons is that gnomes are in WoW. I only had the trial, but there were plenty of them around when I was there.

So, sure, give them goggles and spikey hair if you want. :)

1st edition gnomes had a great vibe/look.
Umm? I hardly remember them being available as a race. My first AD&D character was an illusionist, btw. - I still never considered playing a gnome.

In almost 24 years of playing D&D I'm pretty sure I've never seen anyone playing a gnome. I do remember our OD&D DM showing us copies of the gnome class but noone was interested, so he created a gnome npc to accompany the party. For some reason it still failed to appeal to anyone. IT didn't help that the gnome looked exactly like a wee dwarf...

I've seen plenty of dwarves, elves, half-elves and half-orcs. I've also seen a couple of halflings. But never gnomes.

In 20+ years of playing I know only one person who uses gnomes, they're all Bards with the slightly altered names of dead rockstars. Having said this, keep the gnomes!

Get rid of the halfling/hobbit/kender menace, irritating little wastes of space with no saving graces.
