My DM is going to allow my illusionist/bard to pick up proficiency in this as a freebie when he gets gnome paragon 1 next level. And then it's masterwork gnome hooked hammer, with Swiss Army Knife attachments time, baby!

Gnomes have entire toolboxes full of ways to build, derail and modify plots!
There is the left-of-field plot hook. Looks somewhat corkscrew-like in shape. (Naturally the counter-clockwise plot hook is preferred by some, yet despised by others).

The meeting in a tavern plot hook remains popular and is mass-produced. It looks like a corkscrew with a tankard attached.

There is a vexxed question anomg gnomes as to whether that particular hammer should be round-headed, square-headed or hexagonal to be a "true" gnomish hooked hammer.

Regardless of shape, the faces of some hammers are designed so that hitting any metal surface will leave behind an impression. It is very difficult in some areas to re-sell armour which has "Made by Gnomes" punched neatly into the breastplate...
