Gnome Illusionist level 1

Thanks for all of your imput guys. Here is what I ultimately went with:

Gnome Illusionist (prohibited schools: Abjur, Necro)

str: 8
dex: 12
con: 19
int: 15
wis: 15
char: 13

I took a weasel familiar (+2 on Reflex saves)

Feats: Scribe Scroll, Alertness (freebie from familiar), Collegiate Wizard

Spells: Color Spray, Silent Image, Charm Person, Hypnotism, True Strike, Magic Missile, Mage Armor, Expiditious Retreat

After discussing the matter, my DM opted not to allow me to use my 2nd level bonus spell slot to cast level 0-1 spells at 1st-2nd level. I have to wait until 3rd level before I can use that bonus spell slot. :)

Unless your DM won't let you change, may I very much recommend you don't have Abjuration as one of your prohibited schools? That's dangerous ground you'll be treading in...

And of course, Dispel Magic, Protection from Arrows, Minor Globe of Invulnerability, etc.....

Enchantment may be a better choice of banned school, since you'll have some mind-affecting Illusions and such to manipulate people sometimes.

Why keep Abjuration?

Protection from Evil
Shield
Protection from Arrows
Dispel Magic
Magic Circle Against Evil
Dimensional Anchor
Globe of Invulnerability, Lesser
and Greater
Stoneskin
Mordenkainen's Private Sanctum
Anti-magic Field
Greater Dispel Magic
Repulsion
Spell Turning
Prismatic Wall
Mind Blank
Imprisonment
Mordenkainen's Disjunction
Prismatic Sphere

From spell level 1, Abjuration keeps you alive. There are simply too many good spells on that list to ignore, even if they won't directly harm the enemy.

Drop Evocation, Enchantment, or Transmutation before you drop Abjuration.

As an illusionist, you probably don't need access to another school of magic that doesn't always affect undead- keep Abjuration and drop Enchantment.

Good advice. Why keep Enchantment (influence people) when you already have Illusion (deceive people)?
