This is going to sound like a strange question. If a gnome has a non-spellcasting class (for example, Commoner 3), is he still considered a level 3 caster for the purposes of taking Craft Wonderous item?

drnuncheon said:I would say no, because the gnome doesn't have the ability of a 3rd level spellcaster - he can just cast a spell as a sorcerer of his class level.
Janos Antero said:No more so than a Yuan Ti can take craft wonderous item because of it's inane spellcasting.
Dr_Rictus said:1) The feat prerequisite isn't to "have the ability of a 3rd level spellcaster." It's to have a certain caster level.
Dr_Rictus said:2) Gnomes always use their spell-like ability to speak with animals and their ability to cast racial spells (if their Intelligence is high enough) as 1st-level casters, regardless of their class level. The thing you say about having a caster level equal to their class level just isn't true.

So then a dragon without class levels can't take a feat? They cast as sorcerers, but don't have a spellcasting class by definition.

On an entirely other note, Inane Spellcasting would be a perfect gnomish feat...
