Gnomes and Item Creation

Ok, because people don't think I know what I'm talking about:


Gnomes with Intelligence scores of 10 or higher may cast the 0-level spells (cantrips) dancing lights, ghost sound, and prestidigitation, each once per day. These are arcane spells. Treat the gnome as a 1st-level caster for all spell effects dependent on level (range for all three spells and duration for ghost sound).

Only level-dependant requirements are level 1. The rest are by the level of the gnome.

Are you saying that the caster level is considered the total of the gnome's levels for effects that don't depend on level ? Well, if you want, why not, but what's the point ?

It's for a submission to Mor's End, has to be well within the rules for something like that

You'd be safe with Brew Potion, as it's caster level requirement is 1.

You're inferring that - you maybe right, but there's nothing in the SRD that says that.

How do you know that you shouldn't treat the gnome as a 1st level caster for all effects dependent upon level, and as a zero-level caster for all other effects? That would seem to make more sense, as the gnome doesn't actually have any caster levels.

3rd level spellcaster, actually. Scribe Scroll is the only item creation feat available at first level.

Man... 3 cantrips to make into magic items, and I can't do it

Weird that a gome can take spellcasting prodigy without levels, but not a creation feat. Meh, so I can't make the NPC, oh well.

Thanks for the replies guys, just wanted to be sure on a rules level.

Sorry it wasn't more in line with what you wanted to do, been there.

Spellcasting Prodigy is actually the reverse situation though, it's a feat that aids class levels, whereas levels aid Item Creation, sorta the reverse situation.

WHY anyone would want Spellcasting Prodigy without spellcasting though, but who knows, players want strange things.

Still... would've been nice to have the gnome Com3 chimney sweep who makes brooms of prestidigion: clean for his Com1 employees.

Somehow I can't seen a lvl 3 spellcaster as a chimney sweep.
