Gnomish Artificer Experiences?

IIRC, Psionicist did some tweaks to the prC a while ago. It worked pretty good when I DMed his gnome articifer. If you're interested, I'll summon Psi to tell you some more about it..

Certainly interested.

I thought of doing the gnomish artificer, but when faiths and pantheons came out and I saw the techsmith, I knew that was the right class. You get nice bonuses to craft, your own construct :) and other such things, the artificer class looked like it would be pretty hard to implement. Good luck though, it's worth a shot certainly.

Yeah, but the techsmith goes too far in the other direction...

Improved Crit with any weapon you wield? I mean... really!

I love my Gnome Artificer.

I will see if I can find my modified class somewhere in my rather chaotic D&D-folders, It will be an adventure on it's own. Anyhow, I did some major changes to the class. First of all, you can emulate ALL arcane spells form level 0-9 as machines/devices (with your DMs permission of course). "Fireball" may create a flame-thrower sort of invention, while a "Bulls Strength"-device consists of a huge hydralic, robotic arm. "Fly" -> Helicopter. "Iron Body" -> Golem. (I think you get the point). Of course, these devices are expansive and can only be used a fixed amount of time, unless you "construct them permanent" (VERY expansive).
Of course, this is one of those "I like my DM"-classes. It just doesn't work if you have a munchkin DM.

Anyhow, it was a blast to play him. His name was Ludwig, a gnome (of course). He fought with a gigantic wrench (monkey-gripped), had some sort of roller blades ("Expeditious Retreat"-spell), a pair of night-vision-goggles ("Darkvision")... The possibilities are endless!
Anyhow, he was quite ingenious, absent-minded... eccentric, like those crazy professors in cartoons. Very low wisdom, he didn't care too much for anything except his "stuff". Think Jan Jansen from Baldurs Gate. I stole some aspects from him, like the story-part. Ludwig made up all sort of crazy stories (perform(storytelling))

Anyhow, it was VERY fun to roleplay this character. He is still alive, I will game him through RttToEE later this year.

(Please don't mind my poor English, it's late night here in Sweden and can only think of one thing right now - Warcraft III) :D

I can see why you might. I'd be very curious about the balance of non-magical Metor Swarms and Wishes.

Not saying that its not a good check if you have a good relationship with a firm and knowledgable DM but I tend to assume that DM permission is generally required for most player created classes.

Or maybe 'My DM likes me'. ;)

All kidding aside I'd be curious to see what you've got.

True, but keep in mind, you're still a wizard, and most likely a gnome at that. What the improved crit is really good for is killing golems, since any golem you strike with a crit (once you hit techsmith 10) is instantly slain.

I'ts meant for Gonds guys though, you get the Minor Creation spell as a Craft domain spell.
A gnome would decrease the damage curve just a hair, but still a bit much IMO.
