Goblin Communists

Sorta sounds the opposite of my game. In it the players are trying to defend a Spartan (who were sorta like "communist" or facist dictatorships historically) like society from democratic revolutionaries.

As for ideas, an interesting twist could be not to have the characters work against the priest but have them work for the priest to purge the goblins and all others try to prevent them from making their perfect society.

It's important to note that in the real world communism and atheism were intricately tied. While it might not be entirely possible in your game, it could be plausible that the state will start melting down holy symbols for the metal they contain, and generally harass any clergymen as enemies of the state. Additionally, only state sponsered artwork may be allowed to be produced. Bards reciting 'original works' may indeed be fined or worse. Finally, you might have a well intentioned seer that accidently set this series of events in motion. He might even come to the PCs for help.

Also, you might consider what happens when the 'thought police' can use magic to actually read your mind...

I don't want to derail the thread by talking about 1984, but I was under the impression that the thought police didn't actually go after somebody as soon as they were guilty of thought crime. I thought they wanted to play with the person in order to break them and make them willing slaves in love with Big Brother.

Then again, I haven't read 1984 since 1997.

The party could get thrown into a concentration camp and have to escape, but while in there they can learn from eavesdropping on the guards about which priest is the leader, and formulate an assasination.
