Goblins, the final PHB3 race?

Someone pointed this out over at the WotC boards and I thought it was kind of interesting (I completely blew past it this morning when I first read it), so I thought I'd share it here. Below is a short passage from The Plane Below (pg 31):

The Plane Below said:
This campaign arc begins and ends in the Elemental Chaos but has stops in every other plane. Characters of nearly any race - from githzerai to goblins to minotaurs - could be appropriate for this campaign.

Now, a single passage from the latest splatbook doesn't prove anything, but like the other posters over at the WotC boards, I thought that it was notable since goblins are mentioned with two of the three confirmed PHB3 races. Also, since 3e, there's been a tradition of psionic goblins and a lot of people think that there will be at least one small race per PHB. At the very least, I give this more credence than the re-appearance of gnolls because there was a picture of one in AV2.

Plus, goblins are one of those races that a lot of people like to play. I know I've always had a soft spot in my heart for the little guys. Hell, I'd rather play a Gobbo than a minotaur OR a Githzerai.

My favorite character right now is a Goblin (Assassin) of the three games I am a part of - I've always liked them, so I think it would be great if they got some love.

At the same time, I'm getting to play one anyway via the MM rules so even if they don't show up there, I'm good - but it would be nice to see them get some time in the spotlight ;)

Splug has become such a hit NPC that I've expected goblins to show up as an official pc race for a while now. Goblins are this edition's kobolds.

I'd much rather have goblins than a completely new race like the wilden.

Wait, aren't wilden a revised version of, er, some race or other from a 3e product (maybe Races of the Wild or something)? Or am I confused?

On another note, how many pc races do we need, anyhow? The overabundance of new (and often kinda dumb!) races was one of the things that felt the most like bloat to me in 3e.

There are still a few dual-stat combinations which haven't been covered yet.

I am guessing goblins may be filling in the dex/cha niche?

Drow are DEX/CHA.

They need to do a damned half-eladrin. Make it the missing and much-needed INT/CON. It'd also be something that isn't horribly out of place in 80% of campaigns like all these weird damned races they keep coming up with that are barely even humanoid.
