Wasn't St. Cuthbert the god of retribution, not vengeance? I think there is something of a difference...med stud said:Finally!!! Vengeance is the domain of an evil god! It bugged me that the semi-good St Cuthbert was the god of vengeance, as I see it as an evil concept.
Anyways, I am glad they are giving Tiamat the "Vengeance" role not because she is evil, but because she is traditionally chaotic (isn't she?).
Revenge is pretty much the clearest cut "chaotic" concept that I can think of. It has always been the polar opposite of things like justice systems and legal codes. Revenge is a system of putting the burden upon individuals to punish wrongs made against them, while laws and codified justice systems exist to remove the individual's role in righting wrongs and punishing criminals. Justice exists to remove the need for revenge and revenge denies the authority of justice.
Either way, I think it would be really cool to see a character (either PC or BBEG) who has sworn an oath to Tiamat and gained her blessing (Paladin of Tiamat?) in order to seek vengeance on someone who has somehow evaded proper justice.
