Going to London... advice?

Hey! It also has leftovers from various peoples who came to Britain to do their own looting, too!

I wanted to join the food hunk of this discussion.

At one point I had a hankering for a burger and went to TGI Fridays near Leicester (sp?) Square. It was fine.

Obviously there are tons of fantastic restaurants all over London. My two cents would be to try stuff you can't get in the States. I mentioned Wagamama earlier, we also had a couple good experiences at Pizza Express - saw a great jazz show there. Pret-a-manger is ok for quick and relatively inexpensive take away. Other than that we tried to frequent as many pubs as possible. We liked Wagamama and PE enough that I occassionally check the websites to see if theyve opened any branches in the states. Wagamama would make a killing in Chicago.

Did I mention to have a pint for me? (Not budweiser, but thats another story...)

Yeah, not Budweiser - try some authentic English real ale :D

Oh, and don't eat at Angus Steakhouses either. In my (limited!) experience they're a complete rip-off, only there to fleese tourists. The other chains seem far better, but if you can find non-chain restaurants you'll be best off, I think!

But if you like lagers, then proper, Czech Budweiser (known as Budvar) is rather nice.

True. There are some world class restaurants in London, as well as some very disappointing ones (a bit like NYC when I've visited) so a bit of research online will pay dividends.

Visit a store on Oxford Street by the Marble Arch called "Churchills" if it is still there...they had all sorts of authentic 19th century Shirlock Holmes clothes, kilts, and overcoats. Neat Place.
