Anyone seen In the Mouth of Madness? I remember watching it when I was younger and being fairly creeped out by it. I'm not sure how well it'll hold up, but next time I go to Best Buy I'm gonna see if I can pick it up.

A friend and I were discussing the viability of Cthulhu movies and I mentioned this movie as being 'Mythos-esque' in its portrayal. I'm hoping it holds up to what I remember!

I'd recommend folks hunt down a copy of A Boy and His Dog (1975). Script by Harlan Ellison. Ignore the fact that it stars Don Johnson - it was well pre-Miami Vice and his callowness suits the role. A great cynical post-apocalyptic story. But I'm not sure if it's been released on DVD.

Yes it is. I recommend this as well.

Visitor Q (disfunctional family brought together through unusual circumstances)
Ichi the Killer (yakuza vs demented boy avenger)
Happiness of the Katakuris (musical; the family that slays together...)
(or almost anything from Takashi Miike)

El Topo (metaphysical splatter western, to borrow someone else's quote)

Stalker (the Tartatovski epic, surreal journey to the Zone, ties in well with the new pc game)

The Vij (classic russian horror film, mood drenched and full of charm)

Tombs of the Blind Dead (1st of Blind Dead series, templar zombies!)

If you can track it down, (only on vhs, no dvd release yet that I'm aware of,) Eyes of Fire, a truly creepy period horror film.

A Korean Film Called Save the Green Planet. great piece of film, though can be a little brutal at times.
