You evil, evil man.

It'll be dark soon.

Most of the other movies (Snatch, Boondock Saints, Primer, Pi, Cube, City of Lost Children) I like have also been nominated here. However, consider a couple of old ones, Seven Samurai and Seventh Seal.

It'll be dark soon.

Grumpy...the Master would not approve...

He is with us always...not dead as you know it...he is with us always...

*cue lilting Torgo theme*

A couple more I just thought of...

Time Bandits (an oldie buy goodie)

If you are into the whole vampire thing, here is a couple movies with a new spin on vampires. I have yet to see either one, but I hear they are pretty good. They are foreign and filmed in Russian I believe (so they probably have subtitles). Anyway...

Nochnoy dozor (aka Nightwatch)
Nochnoj dozor delves into the realms of good and evil. The story is that a treaty was made during an ancient war between good and evil, the agreement being a balance between the two. Evil would set up a "Day Watch" to police the Light/Good beings. They, in turn, ran a "Night Watch" which would police the Dark/Evil beings.

and it's sequel

Dnevnoy dozor (aka Daywatch)

I hear both are really good FWIW. I think you can get both on DVD at this point. I plan on tracking them down and renting them myself...

I liked Cube 2, but haven't seen the third one. Either way, the first one is indeed an excellent movie. Gotta second Boondock Saints - lots of fun. And Equilibrium rocks. Some sweet action scenes (the one with the dog is awesome) and a cool set of ideas as well. Good recommendations all round there, RigaMortus2 - I'll have to check out Unknown if you're as on the money with that one :).

Maybe not so obscure to folks in the US (but I had never heard of it until it came on TV the other week over here) is The Butterfly Effect. It's another time-travel story (I have a soft-spot for those) that deals heavily with alternate timelines. I really enjoyed this one, especially the way it used its own internal rules to craft an interesting story.

Did you get a chance to see Unknown yet? Just curious what you might have thought.

I just got this from Netflix and was going to suggest it here. Fun movie that's inspiring me to make up a one-session game that's somewhere between board game and rpg.

Looks like all my favorite choices are already represented.

The Immortal - couldn't hold my interest long enough for me to stay awake when it came on late at night on Sci Fi.

Dellamorte Dellamore - Very obscure, dark comedy/romance involving zombies

Two Hands - Obscure but very good indie film out of Australia. It isn't a movie like Wolf Creek or Gone, which are movies like Hostel and Saw.

Butterfly Effect - Very good. Try and get the DVD version with the alternate ending so you can get both flavors. Also note that there is a sequel... it sucked.

Lock, Stock, and two Smoking Barrels - Not very obscure, very funny comedy of errors.

2LDK - Nice Japanese flick about rubbing someone the wrong way. Very funny and a little bloody.

Pi - Its already been mentioned here, but it is a very good movie. Don't watch it if you have a headache.

Boondock Saints - Also already mentioned, but I didn't see anything about the sequel. It should be out by now.

Nightwatch - Very good, but very... weird. Its very much like Star Wars only... well its weird.
the Last Supper - One of my favorites

Soylent Green - Not very obscure classic movie

The Clockwork Orange - A cult classic that deserves mention. If you haven't seen it, you should.

If you like artsy murder/revenge flicks check out Anatomia I liked it. Its an indie film by the way. This is all I can think of at the moment.

The Circle of Iron. The best martial arts movie I have ever seen. It actually captures the spirit of martial arts rather than just people smacking each other around. Though there is plenty of that as well...
