Good class to add to dragons?

It seems to me that adding a few class levels to a dragon could really make an encounter more interesting.

Has anybody tried this? How was it?

Adding Sorcerer levels and adding them to their innate sorcerer levels make their spellcasting a bit more unpredictable. 10 levels of Elemental Savant (Fire) for a White Dragon could be amusing though :D!

I was wondering about that....

I would assume that you would have to start over (so an Adult Black Dragon/Sorc 3 would cast spells as Sorc 3 (dragon) and Sorc 3 (class) with two different spell lists and sets of spell slots.

Mostly because if it didn't work like that a dragon adding sorc levels would be getting some pretty good spells while a dragon adding wizard levels would be learning 1st level spells.

Direct-to-PrC might be cool. Maybe a plane hopping Dragon with Shifter levels?

Technically you would ahve to start over. But that is rather silly in a way if you ask me. There was a prestige class in Dragon which specifically stacked with innate equivalent spellcaster levels slightly less than a year ago...

Has anyone ever tried adding further armour & weapons to a dragon? I mean as humans view armour & weapons ... like a dragon wearing a breastplate and wielding a massive two handed sword....

Dragon + rogue levels = sneak attack = mass carnage = DM :D

But that's a really horrible idea, and shouldn't be attempted.

DM: "The dragon rolls highest on initiative and breathes, it does 10d10 + 5d6 sneak attack, save for half..."
Player: "It does WHAT?"

Try this:

Lawful Dragon + Monk levels

With just a few levels you have a nice bonus to AC and Saves, a stunning attack, evasion, and you get Deflect Arrows which dragons generally couldn't get because of low Dex.

And then of course, there's my personal choice:

Lawful Good Dragon + Paladin levels :)

Blackguard! Blackguard! Blackguard!

Duelist levels are also nice for the INT to AC and some other weird stuff...

Though seeing the look on the Wizard's face when the DM exclaims "The Red Dragon evades the Cone of Cold, and takes no damage." would be classic, so Monk and Rogue have my blessing :D

LOL!

Although the look on the players faces when you said "The eagle overhead suddenly changes into a red dragon. Making your spellcraft check, you realise this is a wild shape transformation..." would be pretty funny as well.

Dragon with bard levels, anyone?

"Behold, I am Balshamrath, the Singing Dragon!"
