Good day, gentlemen. Has anyone noticed a striking change in Dragon magazine?

First Post
Ok. I guess I was rude or something and having been scolded I will attempt to communicate feelings of displeasure without offending anyone. Frankly I don't think I was offending any(one) as I was offending an entity (Paizo) probably made up of and directed by a bunch of blue-blood investors as opposed to true gamers but that's another subject altogether. Now, on to my post that has been partially edited but probably not enough to qualify as passable:

I'm sure this has been brought up before, as evidenced by this well written article:

http://www.mythosa.net/ART_DragonMag.html
(great site, btw)

but it needs to be said. Again. Dragon magazine is clearly a cess pool of its former self (hopefully that's a bit nicer).

I don't mean to sound old (I'm all of 25) but Dragon magazine used to be the shiznat. The covers used the be BEAUTIFUL, with art from some undisputedly renowned fantasy artists (as evidenced by this cover: http://www.rpgunited.com/mag/dm181.html
or this cover: http://www.rpgunited.com/mag/dm179.html
or maybe even this cover:
http://www.rpgunited.com/mag/dm185.html)

Now, the covers are a MESS. Clearly Paizo has a surplus of exclamation points and they are not afraid to share the wealth of messy, overzealous "COME AND GET IT!" type announcements that litter the cover page and do nothing more than serve as acts of shameful desperation.

And what happened to the SHORT STORIES?!

The cool, reserved font?

The "sage advice"?

I'm ok with Dungeon's cover and content - but WHY does Dragon have to follow suit? The two magazines are nearly indistinguishable. I have no interest in saving current magazines for posterity as I have with the issues from the early 90s. Granted there is still an acceptable level of good articles and information, but what happened to the beauty, the class?

Has anyone else noticed this trend?

Wow...scary

Im not a collector of Dragon Mag, but I do have a few copies that I have bought over the years. I counted and that number stands at 17. This is scary because of the 17 I own, the three you linked to in your post that have great covers are three that I actually own. I just thought that was weird in some sort of "been sitting in front of a computer too long way." LOL

yes, but i started noting this same trend when the dropped the "The" from the name.

Well I guess the change is much more drastic for me because I've literally had a 10-year hiatus from gaming and the magazine. So you can imagine the shock when you go from looking at Dragon #181 (which I still have) to the current issue. It's just a completely different magazine now.

I really just wonder how the change came about and why?

Actually, Zogg, Piazo is the former WOTC magazine division, who loved Dragon and Dungeon magazines so much that when Hasbro decided to axe them, they made their own company so they could continue to make them.

normal policy for a disagreement with a mod or admin is to email them.

your tone tells me you are trying your best to toe a fine line, and a lot of people here will see it and not appreciate it.

for the record, i found your first post offensive. and this one moreso by your blatant disregards for the board rules.

This didn't start with Paizo. The over cluttered covers started when 3.0 came out. I don't like it. I want to see the art.

Overall I enjoy Dragon magazine. That's why I have a subscription.

Peace and smiles :)

Actualy, he isn't disregarding board rules *exactly*... Eric *did* say he could try again, more politely...

I find it offensive, however, in that it's one of those terse, "I'm not polite but watch me pretend I am while not being polite in the slightest!" type of messages.
