Good Drow

...those "good and otherwise" drow articles are there purely to assuage the Drizzt wannabes who have no imagination and simply cannot fathom the idea of not playing Drizzt.

I think that's a bit of a blanket statement, but that's your opinion & you're certainly welcome to it.

Personally, I think drow are quite interesting & can make for interesting characters/npcs. I read the drow trilogy by Salvatore and found it was a very good read, but not just for the heroics of Drizzt. There were far more interesting points in the book, including the drow matriarchy and the creatures of the Underdark.

Besides all that, there is an entire drow pantheon, (which has been mentioned before in this post) that you seemed to have overlooked. My half-drow character is a worshiper of Eilistraee, who is the Good-Aligned Drow Goddess for those drow who wish to live on the surface and not be evil. It makes for an interesting character and interesting role playing. She has been, by far, one of the most enjoyable characters that I have played. That doesn't mean I am without imagination, and it certainly doesn't mean I can't "fathom the idea of not playing Drizzt." It means that I am willing to try to roleplay a character that may be a little more interesting and challenging than your typical, run-of-the-mill elf.

That's strange. I don't remember seeing an alignment requirement for Drow PCs in the Unearthed Arcana. That must have been how I played a good Drow in 1985. I'm not sure how I was playing a Drizzt wannabe years before Salvatore even wrote "The Crystal Shard" but I'm sure Redleg will tell me.

I don't think he's out to bash us old-timers. if you read up some, I already mentioned the UA ... cavaliers and rangers especially.

... actually I'm not altogether sure what he's getting at, maybe that the paradigm (had to use that word, even if not quite appropriate ) of drow is evil, and it seems more and more common to see good drow.

but then again, anyone who wanted to play a drow ranger (cuz rangers were just hella cool!) would also get ambidexterity ... and wield two longswords ... and house any kind of giant or goblinoid ... just had to be good. We never had a problem with it, and when the Crystal Shard came out we all screamed ... "HEY that's EJ's (me, you ninny's!) Character!!!!"

I'm just babbling ... some one lock me up until it's time to goto work tomorrow!

Well genius, in 1985 there were not legions of Drizzt Wannabes like Ghoti here.

But don't bother reading ALL of my posts, or the ENTIRE thread, because of course that would require almost as much effort as making up a lame-ass excuse for why your Drow is the "One-Good-Drow".

Then you might GET THE POINT being made.

As tempting as it might have been to not read ALL of your posts Redleg, I went back and did it again. It still seems to me that your point (sorry, your POINT) is all good Drow PCs are "Drizzt Wannabes", despite the fact that thanks to the UA there were probably already thousands of good Drow PCs by the mid-Eighties.

So while many good Drow PCs these days may be "Drizzt Wannabes" like you say, it's unfair if not downright silly to say that all of them are -- the genie was already out of the bottle long before TSR published Salvatore's book. And you don't have to be a genius to figure that one out.

you know what.. I think that the next character I play in FR will be a Drizzt wannabe. You know.. I will play an Elven Ranger.. who wields two scimitars.. and soaks in a bath of Condi's Crystals every day or so to get that cool colour.. I admit.. it would be more purple skin but it will do until he can afford a magic item that does it for him... o.. and lime's his hair to get it the right colour... and a pet cat. black of course.. just hope I can afford a wand of enlarge.

I personally don't care if somebody plays a Drizzt wannabe. if that is how they get their jollies.. then so be it. I roleplay for fun.
