Good fighter/rogue class or prestige class?

I think rogue 10/fighter 10 is just fine, actually. It may not have a strong focus, but can do all the basic scouting functions, can sneak attack for +5d6, and lots and lots of feats (all the better to sneak attack you with).

A more purist approach would be fighter 1/rogue 18/duellist 1, giving you martial weapon proficiencies and boosting our Fort save, while loading up on the sneak attack dice and rogue special abilities.

As for prestige classes... it really depends on what you are going for! Fighter 3/Rogue 3/Catlord with Improved Initiative can charge and make two attacks, and if he wins initiative, both get sneak attack dice. On the other hand, the Thief-Acrobat is supreme for skill use and battlefield mobility.

Sniper? Fighter/rogue/order of the bow initiate.

For the infamous Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil, I played a F/R and prestiged into my own hombrew class, which is essentially a TWF'er that is also a Master Thrower. Fighter/Rogues rock, especially if you up their Charisma and take on Use Magic Device to make up for their lack of spellcasting ability.

Seriously, you're gonna need a rogue when dealing with just about any pre-fab adventure, because pre-fab adventures tend to add traps and such specifically for rogues to overcome. With regret, I don't have access to any of those books, but I would probably go straight Fighter/Rogue through SCAP.

Try an Unfettered from AE/AU.

There's also the Streetfighter PrC from Complete Adventurer.

The Scout is also a good choice.

The Invisible Blade PrC is a kinda neat class for anyone specialized with daggers.

If he would be more interested in a "Duelist" type build, then follow me here...

Swashbuckler 3 - you get weapon finessse for free, and get to add Int to damage. Take Dodge and Mobility for you level 1 and 3 feats ;) Take Perform (dance) 3 ranks X class, and Tumble 5 ranks as well (5 for the Duelist PrC you'll be taking later ;))
Fighter 2 - this is to pick up the last two feats for the Dervish - Combat Expertise and Weapon Focus (any slashing weapon, but Scimitar is a good choice due to one of the classes abilities, but not necessary)

Now, you have the prereqs for Dervish, and sink your teeth into it :D

After one level, you also apply for the Duelist PrC, and can switch back and forth as you will. The Duelist is nice becasue you can up your AC with Canny defense - with no armour or shiled you can add +1 for every point of Int bonus. Since you Int is already high (right, RIGHT?) because of the Swashbuckler's Insightful Strike, you will be doing a great amount of damage and have a high AC the more you keep with the Duelist PrC. It's probably better to get into the Duelist PrC first (say, 5 levels for +5 AC thansk you your awesome Int score) and then add mroe to your Dervish levels, since AC is going to be important since you are relying on no/little armour (depending on where you are in the buid).

Just be sure to do it roughly in that order, and you'll be fine :)

Oh, and DK, this is a GREAT build for your player, trust me ;);)

WOW, thanks for all the suggestions!

My player want to do a fighter/rogue with these abilities:

FO 17
CO 16
DE 15
IN 12
WS 11
CH 6

So I think that classes based on intelligence or dexterity aren't so suited for him. He also would like to do a fighter 10 rogue 10 (with some big weapon), but I'm not so sure the outcome will be such a balanced character compared to the other players.

Any further suggestions?

Thanks again!
