Good fighter/rogue class or prestige class?

WOW, thanks for all the suggestions!

My player want to do a fighter/rogue with these abilities:

FO 17
CO 16
DE 15
IN 12
WS 11
CH 6

So I think that classes based on intelligence or dexterity aren't so suited for him. He also would like to do a fighter 10 rogue 10 (with some big weapon), but I'm not so sure the outcome will be such a balanced character compared to the other players.

Any further suggestions?

Thanks again!

A greatsword wielding fighter/rogue with lots of tumbling, Dodge, Mobility, Spring Attack, Power Attack.

Full plate armour (mithril or darkweave to benefit from decent Dex)
One-handed weapon
Heavy spiked shield of bashing
Feats:
Chain 1: Imp. Shield Bash, Shield Specialization - heavy shields (PHB2, +1 AC), Agile Shield Fighter (PHB2, == TWF with heavy shields)
Chain 2: Combat Reflexes, Vexing Flanker (PHB2, +4 when flanking), Adaptive Flanker (PHB2, flank from current square and another square you threaten)

If there's another melee fighter who will work with you to set up flanks, a summoner, or animal companions, then this would work out quite nicely. High AC, lots of attacks, lots of Sneak Attacks.

I think rogue 10/fighter 10 is just fine, actually. It may not have a strong focus, but can do all the basic scouting functions, can sneak attack for +5d6, and lots and lots of feats (all the better to sneak attack you with).

I agree. I think fighter/rogue is one of the strongest multi-class combinations. It doesn't suffer from any of the spell casting drawbacks of multi-classing. The only better combinations are the martial combinations (fighter/barbarian, for example).

Hmmm, too bad about that - the class set up I did is pretty nice

I think you'd want to do APAATT (all power attack all the time) with this guy, so long as you took more fighter levels first in the build to get a nice BAB going for him ;)

What level at you starting at??
