Good Old Games: Baldur's Gate and Planescape Torment

I was actually going to make a thread about these, and Icewind Dale and ask if they're actually worth picking up still if you never ever got around to playing them originally... even though they're so severely dated. :o

Planescape Torment is one of my favorite games of all times. I would absolutely say it's worth picking up if you've never played it.

Baldur's Gate was pretty good, too. If you don't mind the older graphics it's worth a play through.

I bought Icewind Dale a looong time ago and never played it. I finally got it installed on my Windows 7 machine and have started playing it. Haven't got far enough yet to say whether it's worth it. I do know it is annoying me that my wizard has a single spell per day (AD&D rules), but I'm sure that'll get better as time goes on. :p

Torment is one of the best CRPGs ever made, even if you find the gameplay a little dated, the story is still well worth the effort.

BG has the same engine so the gameplay and graphics are about the same, Bioware's storytelling was quite where it was going to be, but I'd still suggest this one if for no other reason than you should definitely play BG2 and it's expansion Throne of Bhaal, which is where the trend of awesomeness truly started.

Definitely purchase, download, and play Baldur's Gate and Torment. If you enjoy the style of game and older game engine, then follow up with Icewind Dale. Icewind Dale was a lot of fun for me, but BG and Torment are truly amazing classic games.

Arcanum, Torment, BG, and now this week GOG's got ToEE! These guys are killing me; I don't have time for this!

I never played ToEE when it came out, 'cause of its buggy reports, but I'm hoping that the GOG edition will be patched up.

I strongly recommend visiting Circle of Eight Forum - Powered by vBulletin (Circle of 8) and download some (most) of their fixes. The GOG version should be patched to v3, but adding Co8 makes the game much better.

And they are (used to be) a very friendly and dedicated bunch :)

I played BGII for the first time last year. Despite the technical limitations, it was vastly superior to the Neverwinter Nights games. The story and the world are fantastic. Definitely worth it, even today.
