Mistwell
Crusty Old Meatwad
I run a 10th level Ocean/War themed elven cleric, that is currently adventuring with a party in the Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil adventure (and I have been running the character since first level). The diety is the Drowned One, taken from the George R.R. Martin books (with some liberties). Alignment is True Neutral. Companions include a Ranger/Archer type (I believe he is an unfettered from Arcana Unearthed, but you get the idea), a Rogue, a fighter-type (actually one of the Oriental Adventures fighter-type prestige classes), and a sorceror. Recently, a druid also joined our group (which may help with some of the issues I am having).
I'm having some trouble enjoying the role playing aspects of the character lately. I've explored a lot of the ocean-oriented opportunities to role play the character, chosen spells that match that theme, but I feel like they are a bit worn out at this point.
Sadly, I have another character in a game that is on hiatus that I enjoyed a lot more (an Akashic skills-monkey). The contrast with this other character makes the issue more noticable for me.
It isn't a DM'ing issue at all. The DM is great, and he does everything one could ask for to help his players enjoy the game. I really think this is just an issue with my own lack of inspiration for this cleric character lately. It's the only cleric I've ever run, and I vaguely recall choosing that class simply because the group needed a cleric, and not because I started with a deep interest to play the character.
I've considered a prestige class, but I have never found one I particularly liked, and even the two I've worked on creating didn't seem particularly inspirational to me. I've also considered multi-classing...however the loss of spell levels would damage the party a bit, as this character is relied on for a great deal of the necessary spellcasting during the adventure. The adventure is pretty rough, and I suspect it will only get more difficult the deeper we delve into the mines we are in. Although, we did just pick up a druid into the party, so that may help.
I am looking for both advice, and a suggestion of cleric-oriented products that to purchase that people have found useful in developing their characters. I have Complete Divine (and actually all the Complete splat books and their 3.0 predicessors). I also have faiths and pantheons, and the book of divine might.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
