I didn't know that but they're cool.
Calling Bowling for soup cool is like calling pedofilia a lifestyle choice.

Not really. But they're still not cool. Their songs have three chords in slightly differing variations. Their drumming is pretty awful, too.

Bowling for Soup seems like Good Charlotte. E.g.: Sell-out produced-to-be-different music. If you're not a music snob (as it's VERY EASY TO BECOME!), they could still be fun.

I'm a bit of a music snob, though. Not too much to not listen to Green Day, but enough so that I won't touch new Weezer with a 11' pole.

Green Day hasn't sold out. And they're really open with their political veiws which I like 'cause Punk all about being against the system.

Bowling for Soup is Punk? I didn't know that but they're cool. I love their song "Almost".
Yeah, but I'm a bigger fan of their first CD, Too Drunk to Dance. They're newer stuff is neat, but I think they are trying to appeal to a bigger audience now... which may translate into "sold out" but I wouldn't go that far.

What? People are getting snobby in a thread about punk? I'm shocked!

OK, how about Dead Kennedys, if we're going to talk about LA punk?

LA? As in Los Angeles? My dear sweet Dougmander, DK were NorCal through and through. Jello Biafra even ran for mayor of San Francisco.

I see you're from Massachusetts so I figure you might not know, but it pisses off me and every other Northern Californian when people think California = LA. But, yeah, DK ruled, so I'll excuse your ignorance.

What else? Early Talking Heads. Early Replacements. Any Clash. Any old Iggy Pop/Stooges you can get.

Peter and the Test Tube Babies
UKSubs
Vibrators
Conflict
Siouxsie and the Banshees (old stuff)

and for fun:
NOFX (the song "idiots are taking over" from their new album just rocks  )

Apart from that i am more into german punk

Well, if you're interested in UK music, I can only recommend (in addition to previous recommendations):
Crass - one of my favorite bands. Possibly an acquired taste.
Culture Shock - this is the band between the punk of the Subhumans and the ska-ish music of Citizen Fish.
Exploited - death before dishonour is a great album, full of driven, aggressive, bash-the-bloke-next-to-you music.
G.B.H. - Good music with some moments of greatness.
Rudimentary Peni (I can't swear their UK, but I always think they are) - their first couple albums are great. After that, ehh.
Subhumans - one of the greatest bands ever IMO.

Also, you might look into some Oi bands, such as the Business, Four-Skins, and others. But be careful or you may end up with some racist Oi.

If you're interested in branching out to the USA, include the following:
Adolescents - OC punk, precursor to D.I.
Agent Orange - surf punk. They do a nifty version of Metallica's Seek and Destroy. Plus, IIRC, they were in an episode of 21 Jump Street.
Agnostic Front - Good hardcore music.
Bad Religion - mostly good music, although sometimes you might need a dictionary to understand some of their songs.
D.I. - OC punk, also one of my favorite bands.
Fear - obnoxious. . .but good.
Jello Biafra - this includes the Dead Kennedys, Lard, and his projects with other bands like D.O.A. and No Means No.
Minor Threat - also, some of the old State of Alert and G.I. stuff from Dischord is pretty good. Not Fugazi though! The singer's Pailhead ep is also pretty good, but more industrial.
Naked Raygun - they have some good stuff.
Screeching Weasel - they have some good stuff, and some interesting cover tunes also.
The Unseen - some guys out of Boston (I think) with some really good music.
