Good Spouses

Well my wife and I have been married for 5 years now. We have gamed off and on for probably 3 of those years. Up until 2 years ago we had only found flaky groups, but we now have a good one. With the flaky groups she wasn't terribly interested in it, but now she is enjoying it more and more. Just recently she even started reading these boards, and now she is even posting, though she doesn't consider herself a gamer or a rules person, she just likes coming up with the ideas.

She's the one who started the Hot guys at GenCon thread.

My most excellant wife of 13 years (we were 19) and mother of my two children still has no clue why I game.

However, this past weekend she was hiding being sick, condemning herself to about 10 hours alone with a 2-year-old and a 2-month-old just so I could go play. I caught on just before I walked out the door and skipped the session, but man what a wife!

Oh, BTW- She's hot too!!!

I love you!!!!!!

Even if you did just post because you knew I'd be reading it.

Being a 'good' spouse isn't all that hard, as long as I get to be yours :)

Sorry to hear that. But with some bedrest and some TLC, she should be back to 98.6 F in no time! :)

I have to add my agreement to all the lucky people here.
I've been married for 18 years and couldn't ask for a better bride. She doesn't game, but supports me and my gaming as a pastime.

I spend lots of money on game gear, depending on my work situation I play anywhere from twice a month to every week.

She is supportive and great for bouncing ideas off of. When we met 19 years ago, she didn't read SF or fantasy. Now she reads more than I do and tells me what books to read, so I might make a gamer out of her yet, but there's no hurry. We share other things together.

Now if I can only interest my son in gaming, that would be cool.

I thank the Gods everyday that i have a wonderful woman that understands my need and desire to meld into gamer mode, and stimulate my imagination. she has never asked why, and has never acted embarrased to say, "owe he off playing DnD". She has never shown an interest, but she does love to read my novels, her favorites are Dragonlance, and the cleric quintent.

I have kind of a weird story of how I finally got my wife to game. Her sisters husband was interested in D&D so I told him that if he could talk his wife into it, I would talk my wife into it and get a couple other family members and I would run a one-shot adventure just to give him a feel for it.

So I ran the one shot, expecting that his wife and my wife would humor us, but not really enjoy themselves and then that would be that. To my great surprise and delight they both really enjoyed themselves and we've basically been playing ever since. So I ended up having my main campaign with my friends and the "in-law campaign" with my wife and family members. I think my wife definitely would not have enjoyed playing with me and my friends, but since I was able to create an entire gaming group out of people she was already comfortable with it worked great.

Ohh and it will be 7 years for me on Sunday.

I'm sorry, kids.

I've been trying to figure out why I keep cringing as I read this thread. Think I've picked up on it.

How many of you date (or have married) /gamers/? Rather than 'lovely SOs who got into the hobby because I was in the hobby'?

I'm frightened. :-) I want to run home to my boyfriend and shake him and say, "You're my gaming beyatch! I'm not your sweet little gaming SO! You're my /GM/. I give you hell! I demand you run games that blow up spectacularly! My gaming has nothing to do with you, except that you're a pretty damn good GM! Damn you! Don't make me kill you to prove how unconnected my gaming is with you!" *ahem. I get a little over excited sometimes.*

And then I think, "Hm, well, I guess that means, you know, I'm like, cool or special or different or something, somehow. Wacky. Aliens!"

My wife is also most excellent when it comes to game day. We are soon to have our 9th aniv (Nov.). She has played but does not anymore. I get Sat. to game...she gets together with her friends to scrapbook! :D
