This is very interesting news. I can't imagine they'll be able to put the mag out for $2 for any real length of time, but an in print magazine for 4E? I'm in!

It's only 32 pages, though--pretty scant for a magazine.

Still, I wonder if it'll do well in retail stores (or for that matter, if retail stores will carry it at all)

Well, to put a somewhat different perspective on it, most monthly comic books from DC and Marvel are 32 pages in length (that's counting the ads as pages). DC's books currently retail at $2.99. Marvel's are moving up in price to $3.99 (though I'm not sure if that's for all their comics or just their big ones). Most comics read rather quickly, much faster than a magazine (that's not to disparage their quality; for example, I loved jonrog1's Blue Beetle work, gladly spending the money on it). $2.00 for 32 pages of gaming stuff sounds like a steal to me.

An FLGS who doesn't carry this magazine will make the "F" in FLGS stand for "Foolish". Which means, there is a good chance my LGS will not carry the mag. :(

This is a loss leader designed to drive people into gamestores to buy other Goodman Games products . . . which is a bonus for Goodman and the gamestore. Not unlike the Free RPG Day material or WorldWide D&D Day material from WotC.

But too many gamestores are run by folks who don't understand marketing and may not take advantage of this opportunity from Goodman . . . . my local store is one such (bagged on Free RPG Day, but still does WorldWide D&D Day).

Hmmm... Interesting thinking...
I'd like to see what Games Workshop would do with the D&D brand (as opposed to 4E in particular). Their rules may not be very tight, but their flavour's great and the minis would be beautiful.

I´m really interested if they manage to push the magazine into enough sales slots. Its hard to convince retailers to "make space" for another publication, and i hope Goodman can pull it off.

In other news, people on ENworld continue to play THEIR favourite version of D&D while hoping that YOUR favourite version of D&D is sold, discontinued or changed into THEIR favourite version of D&D. Business as usual.
