Goofy figs.

I represented a horde of lizardfolk with the appropriate cardboard counters, but had them standing upright in a Kraft caramel with a slit cut in top.

I was at one game where the DM mistakenly, while groping blindly into a drawer for something to use as a mini for a giant, pulled out a 'gag' gift he had been given for his recent engagement.

It was a, ummmm. Battery Powered Silicon representation of a Male Adult Entertainer's 'Naughty bits'.

Sorta knocked the drama right out of that encounter.

So is this the part where I make the tasteless joke about "Swallow Whole" or does that come later?

:p

Elom the dragon

We once used a Elmo doll as a dragon in a climatic encoutner. It kind of broke down when one of the players kept using a silly "Elmo" voice.

My group once had to defend a village of gnomes. We had no mini's but we had a lot of beer.

Hence, the birth of the "Shiner" gnomes! Nothing like a beer cap to incite the protectiveness of the dwarf. :)

Mmmmmm. Shiner Bock...

One time back in college, my DM used a cookie to represent a monster. When another friend's wizard took it out, the DM said "Eat the cookie, [my friend's name here]." ...

Myself, I'm not all that interest in minis, so I'll just use dice and coins and scraps of paper when mapping things out for myself; if I've got a mini for my PC, it's because the DM provided it.

heh. My current group does this.

Near the beginning of the campaign, someone brought some M&Ms after reading about another group that does the same. The M&Ms were well used. Next week everyone brought something. Got a little rediculous after a while, so now we just take turns providing the minis.

We've used gummi bears, Smarties, Skittles, anything. One night we were battling a summoner/sorceror, and every critter he summoned was a Hershey's Kiss. (the DM brought several varieties of kisses.) The best part was when, after the Sorc ran out of spells, we got him. The DM then dug into his bag and tossed one of those big gift boxed novelty Kisses to the guy that made the killing blow.

Of course he shared.
