You will be interested to find the Orcus base is removable.
Whether or not you've got one of each mini ever released doesn't matter ... it looks like you've got multiples of just about every mini you have got, including some of the very expensive ones. Your top shelf alone is probably worth hundreds of dollars!
I just spent a rather painful amount of money on SWM and DDM singles, but your collection would cost a small fortune to put together now. Jealousy doesn't even begin to describe it ...
Yeah, I have some hardcore collecting habits. Dragons I try to get 3 of each model (or more). Same thing with giants and trolls and such when they were all rare. The common races I tried to get upwards of 10 of each mini but have slowly pared that down now that there are so many different figures out.
The shelf actually does not include any goblins, hobgoblins, kobolds or any of the PC races. They are in a seperate bin . What you see in the picture is stictly monsters for the DM (mostly me) to use as needed. I ran out of room with these temporary shelving units. Currently, there is no door to the room and I'm surprised my cats (I have 5) don't go in and mess them up.
I organize them into groups - undead, demons, devils, elemental types, dragons, giants, etc. It makes it pretty easy to find the one I am looking for when they are needed. The downside to this method is when the space for that section fills up from new sets I have to reorganize again and move whole sections around. I guess no method is perfect though.
I also number the bases with a paint pen (which is easily removable) so when a player hits one he can tell me he hit giant number 3 for example. The system works really well.
Just remember, if they swarm you, they only take half damage from melee and ranged attacks but are more susceptible to bursts/blasts/area attacks. Depending on the edition you play of course.
That is correct. I think its a nice touch, although for me, I don't ever see the need to remove it.

On a side note - I've followed PirateCat's campaign commentary for some time. Assuming I can get buy in from at least one of my players to help support the idea, I was thinking of doing something similar. How does this tie in with this thread? Well, I was thinking it might be a good idea to start regularly snapping pictures of the mini board throughout sessions and posting them in a thread like that. It might be pretty cool to see some pics of a developing fight. We are currently level 28 and only about 2 month away from wrapping up the current campaign (of which I WILL find a use for my Orcus mini before the end). After that we would start a new campaign and I was thinking of doing the campaign commentary w/ pictures at that piont. Would people be interested in something like that?
