[GR] Advanced books? Anyone else excited?

AD&D was a completely stand-alone game, similar to but different from OD&D. That's not what we are doing at all. These books are meant to work WITH your core books, not replace them.

i hope you are right.

i remember what happened when ADnD hit.

and i remember what happened to ADnD when they released UA, and then 2ed and revised 2ed and now....

Yeah, WotC will release 4.0 because of Green Ronin's books.

Actually, WotC is already working on 4.0; I heard it's codenamed "Project Diaglo Will Really Hate This".

Have you looked at Expeditious Retreat's Magical Medieval Society book ? 'Cause it's that.
No, 'cause it's not.

(Actually, I have - but it's only a great *start*... it's missing a bunch of things, like starting from scratch, population growth, etc.)

Unfortunately, I believe the book focuses a little too much on the Midevail and not enough on the Magical. I would really like a book that addresses the realities of magic's effects on a given society. History is indeed a great source of inspiration, but assumming that a D&D world to follow the historical trends of the Middle Ages does not bear the fruit that I hope guidelines in any future books on the topic would include. I'd really like to see a solid chapter on how magic effects campaign settings in the Advanced Game Master's Book. It's just a suggestion, but I think some solid discussion of how the standard trappings evidenced in the rulebooks affect setting design would be a real boon.

Hmmm...if the adv. bestiary is merely a collection of templates it would be rather disappointing, wouldn't it? I have just read/skimmed the 81 page demo of "The Elements of Monsters" and it seems very comprehensive. I haven't exactly playtested it, but if the author is right, it presents a simple system to create any monster, balanced and with the correct CR in about one hour! That would be something I'd expect in an advanced bestiary, then again Green Ronin does have a pretty impressive track-record, so I guess I'll just wait and see.

Could you please provide me a link to this 81 page demo of "The Elements of Monsters"?

Huh... I downloaded the demo three times, and each time, it came out corrupted.

Must be a bad link...

Either that, or...

It's a PDF, isn't it? If so, and if you havn't the latest version of Acrobat, download acroread 6 from Adobe. There's lots of PDF that are "valid" but will be considered corrupted by earlier versions.

A note to PDF-makers: Apparently, Acrobat aren't supporting Windows 98 and earlier versions anymore. The oldest Windows version they have Reader 6 for is Windows 98 SE.

Here's my deal. So it's got 100 new templates. Yippie. Not excited there. STG's book of templates has that base covered.

Design and build monsters, covered by FFG so far.

New monsters? Pick a book out there, except books by FFE, and there's a bajillion monsters out there.

So it's touted at being this new book that gives insights and wisdom on monsters that rivals that of WOTC, if anyone can make that claim and be believable it's GR.

So far this book better be the next best thing to be sliced bread as it's touted pretty high but there is lack of details here that i need cleared up before i pass judgement on this product.
