A wizard necromancer of lower level than the cleric necro? He'll never catch up! If the cleric was a full level lower, maybe they'd be balanced... maybe.

Well, the cleric *just* leveled, and the wizard is *about* to level. Usually, they'll be equal in level.

Re the inequity, though -- that was my understanding, unfortunately, based on what other folks have said on the boards. That's part of the reason I'm interested in Necromancy expansion/splatbook stuff. My goal is to:

1) Divorce in some way arcane necromancy and divine necromancy

2) Make it so that the arcane necromancer isn't left in the dust -- it's okay if he's less powerful, but I don't want him *too* less powerful.

Now, the wizard is eventually going to be able to cast nifty spells like Fly, Fireball, and Haste, along with his necromantic spells -- that will help. I was thinking that arcane necromancy would tend in the direction of making the wizard more undead-like (like a lich path), while divine necromancers might concentrate instead on creating their little armies of undead. But I dunno.

But I'll start with looking for new necromantic spells . . . which brings up the Mongoose question again . In between those 2-inch margins of art and white space, is there anything good?

Yes the mongoose books is definitly worth it. ESPECIALLY if you play an evil necromancer, the feats are awesome. They will really help close the gap between necromancer and cleric.
The whole books is for arcane necromancer, no divine magic.
THe necromantic feats are very usefull if you don't care ending up looking like a lich.
The spells are a bit powerful: you end up able to have 1 skeleton (ok 1 at a time) at L1!
PS: a nice trick for necromancer at L7 is to take enervation and cast it at a peasant (or a low level monster if you're not evil), he will die and come back as a wight, now Command undead from tome and blood comes into action... 2-3 wights will make good bodyguards.

Now the problem is to survive untill L7.
