Grapple

I find that Grapple seems to be one of the hardest of combat moves to understand and what to go over it with someone so that I have it right.

OK so Ted whats to grapple a Joe who is next to him he first makes a CMB roll vs Joe's CMD since Ted has Improved Grapple Feat he don't provoke an attack of opp. (will say Ted beats Joe's CMD).
This ends Teds turn on the first round.

--Q. Should not Ted make a Touch Attack?

Now its Joe's turn and he tries to brake the grapple he rolls his CMB vs Ted's CMD and he fails his roll. Ending his turn.

Ok Back to Ted's turn He first has to make a grapple check to keep the grapple he rolls his CMB with a +5 (because Joe failed his excape) vs Joe's CMD. He wins the roll easy and Choses to do damage. (unarmed) since Ted has Greater Grapple he gets to make another roll vs Ted's CMD with the +5 still and wins this time he Pins Joe.

Now its Joe's turn again and he is now pinned so he tries to excape useing his excape artist skill. He makes his roll vs Ted's CMD and he wins and is free.

--Q. What is free... from the grapple condition? from just the pinned condition? can he move the same round he broke free?

No, there is not a touch attack required to initiate a grapple in pathfinder. Grapple is just one roll vs a constant D20+CMB vs CMD.

--Q. What is free... from the grapple condition? from just the pinned condition? can he move the same round he broke free?

Not 100% on this but I think it only moves one step with a successful roll.
for the offender
not grappled > grappled > pinned
for the defender
pinned > grappled > not grappled

Edit: Reading through it looks like that by RAW if you are pinned and succeed at an escape artist or CMB you are free. You can also take over as the grappler if you succeed at a CMB roll.
