Great D&D article in today's Boston Globe!

Now, if the NY Times would pick that article up and run with it, that would be something. But the Boston Globe certainly isn't small potatoes. Color me impressed.

Very cool. :)

thanks for sharing. it isn't just the d+d articles i enjoy, i always enjoy an article that sheds a reasonable light on any bit of subculture.

i have been reading a bit on model rocket enthusiasts and they seem like a neat crowd.

[hijack] I had read that an inadvertent side effect of an anti-terrorist bill was that Estes was being forced out of business, because it technically became illegal for them to ship the model rocket engines. Do you know if this got waivered? I loved model rocketry, and would hope that the industry is still going.

Thanks for any update! [/hijack]

Thank's PC. That was great. I've posted the link over in Randomlings House as well, as that board now has quite a few posters who don't frequent ENWorld.

It is so unusual our hobby to get such good press! I hated the hatchet job that Entertainment Weekly did last year (and with WotC's cooperation!) that continued to perpetuate the steriotypes. Too bad this was in the Saturday edition (the least read), oh well, maybe some other papers will pick it up.

[co-hijack] i was reading more on the gung-ho build your own rocket, chat with nasa guys, see who can get a small package out of the atmosphere guys. but i wanna check on estes now, i used to love sending up their cardboard tube rockets. i saved lawn mowing money for months to buy the rocket with the 110 camera in it. i took dozens of boring pictures of wasted industrial sites in the ohio valley :) [/off to research hijack]

That article was very refreshing to read. Even today, the few references I have seen to the game still depict gamers as hopeless geeks or occultists. It's encouraging to seem something positive in the media about our beloved pastime. Let's hope we see more article like this in the future.

Very cool article. I did notice the author was female, which really surprised me.

I also noticed that the lady's last name was Noonan. Wasn't there a game writer with the same last name? David Noonan maybe?

Coincidence???

...7th Sea is about pirates..?

Well, it's easier for newspaper readers to understand than "swashbucklers".

(And the initial promo material did focus on pirates.)

A couple of errors in the article but nothing major... pretty good coverage!
