Greatest Insult to a D&D PLAYER (OOC)

Powergamer and Rules Lawyer are harsh around my gaming circles. I can't count how many players asked to join my game and the first thing they say is "i'm not a rules lawyer or power gamer". And honestly for some reason that always puts a smile to my face to hear they are not.

Funny, I'm known as the Rules Lawyer in my group of gamers (age range from mid 20s to late 30s), and I consider it an honorific. I'm the one that's typically referred to when a sticky situation crops up.

Sometimes (often, here) a "Rules Lawyer" is someone who uses their rules knowledge to find loopholes or technicalities for their characters. Your definition is usually refered to (around here) as "Rules Guru" - someone who just knows the rules well.

That's the definition I hear usually applied to "munchkin".

And "power gamer" most often being someone who is generally an expert at finding the optimized rules combinations.

With then "rules lawyer" most often just someone who just knows the rules better than all others and demands that they are followed to precisely as written no matter whether it interferes with what is going on. It most often shows up when there is a rules issue that is not very well defined.

But still, I have also heard "rules lawyer" said insultingly in the sense you describe on occassion, too.
