Green Dragon Tactics against a Deepwood Sniper

Thanks for the reply. I haven't completely ruled out using a Slaying Arrow, since like everything else, the dragon has to roll a 1 for it to kill him.

At least with such an arrow you don't need a critical anymore, which dramatically increases your odds. It also allows you to take advantage of things like true strike to get better odds of hitting the dragon, since you don't have to get a 20 for crit threat anymore.

+10 BaB, +5 dex, +2 cat's grace, +20 true strike, +10 GMW on bow and arrow, +2 bracers of archery, +1 weapon focus, -4 range. You've got +46 to hit versus AC 48 if the dragon has shield up (he might have other bonuses, like insight and haste, as well though) and you only need a 2 to hit.

Now your chance of success has gone from 1/10,000 to 19/400 (assuming you can get a clear shot without wind wall or prot. from arrows, which in itself is quite a challenge). This is already MUCH better and starting to enter the realm of possibility. The only thing you could really do to improve your odds now would be to work on that slaying save. Either get the dragon's fortitude save lower or, once again, deux ex machina an arrow with a higher DC. Is there any way to get the dragon's fort save below 23?

I didn't respond to your other points because they were irrelevant. You made a claim about me and I asked you to back it up.

So be a player suck up my and others insults and give with the details.

Well if that isn't a helpful, and insightful sentiment, I don't know what is.

What's so funny is, I certainly wouldn't have been as polite with responses like this. It's not that I expect other people to be polite, I generally have pretty low expectations. It's just that if they aren't polite, I expect they'll at least be amusing or entertaining in SOME fashion. But with people like jasper.....well that's just asking too damn much I guess.

At the risk of being as presumptious as you have been while offering every bit as little as you have offered, I'll just say, "I think we both know where you can stick that." Hey, maybe Airwolf will take a picture for his sig of vile darkness.

One comment then I'll get back to the meat of this post.
There seem to be a large number of rude jerks trolling this thread. Look if Kai-Lord plays a game that is as bad to you as you all have been complaining about(which I don't beleive, and besides a good and bad game is completely subjective) so what, it isn't your game if he and his DM are having a blast good for them. No one is forcing you to read this post, or any other posts by Kai.

Now then I'd still go with either an arrow of slaying or poison. The fort saves are virtally guanteed by the dragon unless his save is reduced. With the dragons SR I really have no idea how to do that though. I think if you had a few of them(poisoned or slaying arrows) like one full attacks worth, you might have some kind of chance. If you have a cats grace on you, a bless, better arrows+ wise, a better bow(a simple greater magic weapon or a better bow in your travels to reach the dragon), and then a true strike for your 1st shot in the full attack, and then your to hit might be more in the 15-20 range for most the shots and a don't roll a one on the true strike shot. If hit with 3 arrows the dragon makes 3 saves most likely succeeding but hey 3 shots at a 5% chance a 1 isn't outside the realm of possibility, just very unlikely.

Feed the polymorphed silver dragon to the green.

When the Poly'd elf dies, it reverts to it's natural form. If this is inside the dragon's throat/stomach, he'll explode when the dragon reverts to it's natural form (Assuming it's of atleast Gargantuan size).

Not sure why all the hostility. I think Kai Lord's situation is a fun challenge. Anyway...

Kai, it'd help if you posted stats and available assets. As in, how many guys will go with you? How much can you spend on items? Do you have access to spellcasters?

For specifics, your best bet is to hide in plain site. Get as many griffons in the air as possible, each one with a rider and an archer. You're just another archer; the dragon will have no way of precisely identifying who is firing which arrow.

This tactic may buy you time (unless of course the dragon happens to pick your griffon).

Essential Items:
*Belt of Feather Fall 1/day (very cheap, and useful for when your griffon gets wasted)
*GMW bow and arrows
*Bane arrows, if you can get them
*Dust of Sneezing and Choking, or some other spell/item that does damage even on a successful save
*True Strike item (at least 5/day)

Essential allies:
*Lots of decoy riders.
*Spell casters to load you up with Cat's Grace, Aid, Haste, True Strike, Endure Elements: Acid, Shield
*Spell casters to hit dragon with Glitterdust, Dispel Magic, Darkness, Walls of Force (it'd suck--for the dragon--to run into one while flying), Magic Missiles (from many different sides, so as to get around the thing's Shield), Dimensional Anchor.

Do the elves have any necromancers? Could your Neutral clerics head to the local haunted house and Command some wraiths? Maybe you could hit the dragon with a swarm of incorporeal, level-draining monsters.

Last thing: an Arrow of Dragon Slaying is 100% appropriate. That's what Arrows of Slaying are *for*: taking out specific, tough monsters. Don't be afraid to use the right tool for the job.
