Pathfinder 1E Green Ronin's Freeport in Golarion... where?

Just curious. I'm currently doing my own thing with Freeport, but I couldn't help but to think where I would put it if I were to add it to Golarion? I'm thinking off the coast of the Sodden Lands or the Shakcles makes the most sense.

Those little islands off the shackles, with towns named Quent, Ollo and Drenchport seem like the best options. Since some interpretations of Freeport have a nearby city starting up (Libertyville), one of the other towns could be that new community.

Putting it in the place of Quent would require the least work, although I'd want to tweak the island to be larger and include some rainforest, to better suit the actual Freeport island appearance.

You could also have it appear on that island north of the Eye of Abendago, and replace Ilzmagorti with Freeport. In that case, the island already has some jungle and 'works' as drawn, and you might want to either fold in the concept of the Red Mantis Sect (adding it to the local cults and societies crawling around Freeport) or move the Red Mantis' to another location (such as Quent, Drenchport, etc.).

It really depends on whether or not you want to use all of Golarion's available 'stuff.' If you don't care for the Red Mantis stuff, Ilzmagorti is perfect. If you don't care for the 'Impossible Kingdom of Jalmeray,' that island is also pretty neat (although perhaps not perfectly positioned for a pirate haven, being too close to potential retaliation from large nautical powers). Even if you do want to use Ilzmagorti as Freeport, and still use the Red Mantis Society, you can move the Red Mantis' to another location (perhaps they hide within the Screaming Jungle?), incorporate them into the cults & societies of Freeport, or replace completely one (or more) of the other cults & societies of Freeport with the Red Mantis sect.

I did something similar porting Freeport into Greyhawk, having a Scarlet Brotherhood presence, so Freeport's pretty easy to squeeze into other settings, IMO.

Freeport would work VERY well on one of the islands in the Shackles. Replacing Ilizmagorti would probably cause more problems, since that city and its setup is a relatively important in-world bit of continuity.

The other places I thought of were just north of the Eye, on that big unnamed island opposite Botosani. Also, on one of those islands just opposite Katapesh would make some sense, too... especially because it's close to where firearms were invented so it makes some sense for them to be there.

I'm running a pirate campaign in Golarion using Freeport, and I'm kinda splitting it up. I am running the Death/Terror/Madness trilogy in an only slightly modified Riddleport. I plan to use other parts of Freeport later down in the Shackles but really only because I want the campaign to move in that direction. Riddleport is a good fit for Freeport, probably better than most Shackles locales, just because Freeport, like Riddleport, was originally a pirate city but has gotten so big that really it's not any more, it's a traditional, crime-ridden city that pirates like to visit. Most of the people on the Freeport Captain's Council aren't really captains. Seems to me most of the Shackles cities are really more "pirate base" and less "real city." And Riddleport is nicely near all those well-detailed Varisian locales from the APs. Ilizmagorti would be the best location-wise if it didn't have so much going on - though you know, as long as you dial back the "any old shopkeeper might be a Mantis!" thing it might be OK.

If you want to mix Riddleport/Second Darkness and Freeport together, here's some of my equivalencies I'm using.

Sea Lord Drac, head of Captain's Council = Overlord Cromarcky
Verlaine, Council ally of Drac = Avery Slyeg, crime lord ally of Cromarcky
Dutch Tillinghast, head of the Sea Lord’s guard = Anton Mescher, Cromarkcy’s general
Samaritha Beldusk = Brother Egil
Elias Tammerhawk = Thuron
Cypher Lodge = Temple of the God of Knowledge
Melkior Maeorgan, ally of Drac = Clegg Zincher
Lady Elise Grossette = Shorafa Pamodae
Dirwin “Nimblefingers” Arnig = Varnal Knocmar
Liam Blackhammer (guild rep) = Tromard Roldhein
Sister Gwendolyn = Ruben Carfay (Besmara)
Captain Lydon (Council nominee) = Saul Vancaskerkin
Milton's Folly = Cyphergate plus fiddling
etc.

I seem to recall someone saying that the islands on the other side of the Eye of Abendago from the mainland is a good spot for it. Since I don't have the world map, however, I don't recall for certain.

That was James Jacobs. It was before his post above suggesting the Shackles though, so maybe he changed his mind.

Has anyone actually included Freeport in their Golarion game? Did you replace the similar setting elements in the Shackles (eg the banding together of pirates, the confusion over succession, etc) or supplement them?

(eta: I meant in the Shackles. No offense meant to mxyzplk and his Riddleport/Freeport notes!)

No offense taken. I didn't use all of Freeport up in Riddleport, just parts. I'm probably going to split it up in the Shackles - I also have to fit Port Shaw from Razor Coast in there.
