GREYHAWK, a Classic 2nd Edition Setting ... WHAT?!?!!!

Well, it was a classic 2nd edition campaign setting. It started out as a 1st edition campaign setting, of course, but...

Cheers,

My 1E Planescape/Spelljammer crossover is going just fine. I see no need to get this new-fangled "greyhawk"

I think the point here is that it's also the default setting for 3.0 and 3.5... Why would it need "updating?"

That's not to say it doesn't need support from WotC. I find what they've done to Greyhawk to be a disgrace.

I think they are referring to Greyhawk Ruins, which did come out under 2nd edition, as opposed to Greyhawk as a whole. Especially since the book will be confined to Castle Greyhawk and not the Flanaess as a whole.

Greyhawk Ruins was a 2e adventure/campaign.

This is exactly right - Expedition isn't updating the Greyhawk setting, it's updating the setting of the 2e Greyhawk Ruins adventure campaign. I didn't even realize the blurb could be read to suggest an updating of Greyhawk until I read this thread.

(And, yes, Castle Greyhawk was around long before 2e, but it was never published, so it really can't be considered a "classic adventure setting" for any edition. Or for anyone who didn't play with Gary Gygax, for that matter).
