Gridless combats - How do you do it?

What can i say, I don't always view the boards chronologically. If I come across a topic I 'm still interested in, I'll respond to it.

The gridless 2001 Chainmail minis game used a scale I do like; 20mm = Small, 25mm=medium, [1.5"] 40mm = large. Though for large [long] creatures I am a fan of 1"x2" Cavalry bases, especially the rare round corner cavalry base. Also a fan of using 2"x4" bases for Huge [long] minis, which happened to be the exact size of the base for the mounted Mageknights from the "Dark Riders" expansion.

I do it by using a combat system which allows a natural range of attack, defense, and movement based on cinematic martial arts techniques that are easy to visualize ;)
