[Grim Tales]A question about the Magical Adept Talent Tree

one-end

First Post
Hey everybody,

Here I am. Back with another Grim Tales question. Love the book, especially the magic, just seem to have questions all the time.

My question is about Multi-classing and how it effects the talent tree. If you multi-class between, for example, Smart and Charismatic can you take one part of the talent tree in one class and continue to take other talents in the Magical Adept talent tree in another class?

That may not have made sense. Let me give an example.

Can I take the Magical Adept talent while in the Smart class but take Improved Caster Level or Master Eldritch Flow in the Charismatic class?

Hope this all makes sense. Thanks for the help.

I can't remember specifics, as IDHMBIFOM, but I can tell you this:

When you get a talent from a class in GT, you can only spend it on talents that are available for that class, assuming you meet the rest of the prereqs for that talent. (i.e. if you get a talent by advancing in Smart Hero, it must be spent on a talent labelled [Smart] in its description.) Some talents are labelled for more than one class (and I think Magical Adept is one of those), so you can pick it up so long as it is labelled for the class that is allowing you to choose the talent.

If a talent is labelled [Advanced], you must have at least three levels in the class in order to pick it up.

Since I can't remember what the prereqs, classes or Advanced status for these particular talents, I can't answer you directly, but I imagine with the above, you can easily figure it out.

A question does arise in the following scenario: Let's say there's a talent that is labelled [Advanced] and [Smart][Charismatic]. You pick it up at Smart Hero 3, then multiclass to Charismatic Hero. The next talent in that tree is also labelled [Advanced] and [Smart][Charismatic]. Can you pick the second talent up with Charismatic Hero 1, because you already has three levels in Smart Hero, thus meeting the [Advanced] criteria for the Smart Hero, even though you're getting it via the Charismatic Hero talent?

Just a question,
Flynn

Thanks Flynn.

The scenario you listed above is exactly the scenario I am curious about. I guess you explained it better than I did.

Wulf?

We should ask Wulf on this one. He's kinda the expert on the system, seeing as how he wrote it. :)

Wulf?

Thanks,
Flynn

Yes, you can.

Charismatic gives you access to a Talent.

That talent has a pre-requisite.

You meet the pre-req.

That's the answer I would have gone with myself, for my campaign, but it's always good to know where the developer stands on such things. :) It is, after all, ultimately his creation.

Thanks for clarifying that for us,
Flynn
