[Grim Tales] Skilz Questions

So, I understand (and love the idea) of characters having whatever skills they think are best for their character concept by choosing their occupation, the three flavor skills (Craft, Knowledge, and Profession) and then three other skills.

What happens when the character multi-classes? Do they choose three 'other' skills? Three more flavor and three more other? Or do they have the skills they start with and that's it?

I didn't read that section too deeply last night and I was conking out, so I wanted to ask.

Also, if you're using GT for a more modern game, what skill would you use for computer use? 'Use Technological Device'?

I do not believe you get to add to your core skills... unless there is some feat/talent which allows you to. For example, when a character takes a caster level, they add Spellcraft to their core skills list.

Multiclassing does not affect your core skills list. Some classes offer additional skills at 1st level (Charismatic for example) but you don't get those if you multiclass into it either.

Nope. Your starting skills and that's it. There are some feats or talents that let you add skills to your list.

Depends. Could be Research. Could be Profession (computer call center tech). Could be Craft (computers). Could be Knowledge (computers). Depends on what you're doing!

Hell, it could even be Craft (writer) or Craft (artist), if you're using the computer for either of those things.

Basically, "Computer" is pretty wide open-- as it should be.

If the PCs were trying to use an alien computer then I would go with Use Unknown Device (and probably give them a +2 synergy if they have applicable Earth-computer skills).

That's what I thought. Just making sure.

That's an interesting approach and makes a lot more sense. FYI, I'm writing a review on GT for the Silven Crossroads site when I'm done reading, and hopefully, playing a little with the GT rules. All this to say, I may have other questions, since I want to understand the differences completely.

So far, I really like the options available for Action Points, as well as the variants. Did you pick up the 'exploding dice' concept from Fuzion/Action! System? Or somewhere else? I told Mark over at Action! that he should look at GT for a d20 version of Sengoku. Someday... I can dream.

Aww, geez no. Exploding dice aren't exactly a new concept.

But if I had to guess, I'd guess I was reminded of it through Spycraft.

Somebody more familiar with Spycraft would have to tell me if I could have gotten it from there. Writing GT was a long process, with lots of osmosis from lots of great sources. (It's a long Section 15!)

That's right. I forgot Spycraft had that, as well. I wasn't implying that it was 'stolen.' All the Fuzion/Action junk is open content, as well. I just like to see those good ideas propigated...

Wulf, what skill would you use in a modern game for just "hacking?" In other words, system intrusion (which is what most adventurers are interested in, anyway. :D)

I always start with what attribute makes the most sense.

If it's Wisdom (your instincts), go with Profession.

If it's Intelligence (your smarts), go with Knowledge (computers).

Honestly, hacking is kind of a tossup. I'd go with Knowledge and allow Profession-based synergy.
