GrimJack and Alien Legion RPGs

Both of these would rock. I really liked Grimjack when I was a 17-year old Heavy-Metal guy who beleived I was "Complex" and "Serious" :)

What was that other aweome sci-fantasy comic about That Sapce Pirate adn his cat-man friend, and their grouchy Cyber Wizrd pal who fought the Space-Papacy?

That was great as well. I can't beleive I'm blanking on the name.

What ever happened to labors of love? Not everything absolutely needs to be done for a profit when you're a publisher.

Yes, yes it does. This isn't a hobby, this is my job. I take risks on projects I want to do but I'm not about to spend months and thousands of dollars on something just to watch my time and money be thrown away.

Dreadstar. One of Jim Starlin's creations I believe. Peter David later took over the writing. Had some fanastic art after Jim lef via Angel... can never remember the artists full name.

Solid stuff and wide enough to afford teh GM several types of campaign mode.

Actually, you need to talk to Carl Potts. He created and owns Alien Legion.

I spoke to Carl Potts a few years ago (2002, I think) about this.

He told me that he was in the midst of talks to get an Alien Legion movie produced, and that his lawyers were telling him to avoid having licenses tied to the property, because it would make the property "less attractive to producers."

Yeah, I know...that's directly contrary what you'd expect....it seems to me that having it licensed would demonstrate interest, which the producers would like. *shrug*

But, back to the topic at hand, it's one of those dream projects that *I* would love, but would probably end up being a money-loser. "Mid-to-low profile geek-niche property from the 80s" isn't exactly a big grab for most gamers. See also my decision to back out of talks for the license for "Buckaroo Banzai" in 2003.

Yep Dreadstar. Vanth Dreadstar, Oedi (catman), and Zyzygy (cyber wizard). My dad was a huge fan and left me his comics. The run of Peter David was very different and comedic, but the whole series was very cool. I'd pay money for THAT ransom. gauranteed.

Actually, my experience with the Hellboy license (and some other license negotiations) leads me to completely expect the license to be unavailable whenever "movie talks" are mentioned.

Hollywood is greedy, greedy, greedy.

That the same Grimjack of the comic book of the same name, late 80s?
"Guns work here, magic works there, swords work everywhere."?

I loved that comic. One of a very, very few I collected in college.

That's the one. And new issues are being released today.
