GrimJack and Alien Legion RPGs

Coooool. Thanks for the info. I wonder what box all my old issues are in?

I ran my only (and maybe *the* only) 'Lords of Creation' campaign with Cynosure as the stepping off point.

There are trade collections of Grimjack, too.

Phil, I'm afraid I'd want GURPS Grimjack (or Cynosure, or whatever) or GURPS Alien Legion way more than Grimjack d20/OGL. Of course, I've run & played in more than one dimension-hopping, everything-and-two-kitchen-sinks GURPS games since the early '90s (continuously, in an off-and-on fashion, and not so much the last couple of years). :)

Something about levels just bugs me with modern & SF games, I'm afraid.

These names are really bringing on a wave of nostalgia. I think the marketability is a little better than what some may think. After all, given the relative sizes of the markets, a niche comic book could be an RPG best seller. And, of course, there are many of us 30-somethings who grew up on D&D and Dreadstar, et al. I think there's a lot of crossover appeal between the markets.

Now, in answer to the problem of how to viably get it to market, this is something I've been thinking about for awhile. I've considered approaching other publishers (frankly a couple who've already posted in this thread) about a joint project that would permit us to pool our resources with a synergistic effect:

The Triad, an imprint of Adamant Entertainment, Blue Devil Games, and Ronin Arts, brings you Grimjack RPG.
Throw in the ransom model to limit risk, and I think there's potential there.

Snip interesting idea.

I could see it working. Before I could ever seriously attempt grabbing at a GrimJack license -- or helping others to attempt it -- I've got one person I'd want to discuss the idea with. I have a history with discussions of a GrimJack RPG and I'd want to be sure the previous party is okay with me continuing without them.

As to the actual product, I'd take a lot of what I learned in creating the Hellboy game and stick with that same format, shoot for full-color, and make it a complete, stand-alone game in one book.

Absolutely.

And, for the record, I wasn't thinking about the Grimjack RPG specifically when I was noodling around with this idea. It's one I've had for a few months. Bigger print runs, cheaper advertising--all stuff that can be accomplished when you're working with a bigger pile of money to start.

Having just got into Grimjack in the recent reprinted materials and the new series, it would make a truly awesome game. The new IDW series seems to be selling pretty well, or at least up to expectations, but that may have more to do with the $3.99 price tag than the actual number sold.

Hmmmm. A bigger pile of money. I like the sound of that.

Another old comic I always thought would make an excellent game is The Light and Darkness War. The concept really lends itself to some exciting adventures.

I remember that series, it would make for a really cool RPG. + count me in on the GrimJack bandwagon!

I'd be most interested in Grimjack if it used a, er, grimmer variant on D20. WP/VP, low MDTs, etc. As a stand-alone system, or using a Supers variant, I would likely only use it for flavor. I don't have a problem with level based systems for modern or sci-fi, but I really dislike straight HP systems in those genres.

So, the new stuff is the six-issue 'Killer Instinct' and the 'Legend of' is all re-prints?

I just finished the Killer Instinct series, really cool stuff! I'm just gonna have to work up the Killosaurs (uplifted Raptor dinosaurs with machineguns!) for my d20 Future Campaign!
