Group Mascot *go team go!*

My husband and I acquired a cat at about the same time that our group officially started gaming together... for some strange reasons not to be discussed here, her name is Shark.

After mere minutes of playing in our living room, it became incredibly obvious that our adorable kitten had a passion for dice that rivaled our own! The moment they start to roll, she RUNS to the living room and spends the better part of the day/night attempting to steal everyone's dice and hide them under the sofa. What need a cat has of dice is something totally foreign to me... maybe she just hates them-- I'll never know.
But, her passion for stealing the dice has given her the nickname Shark Dicebane (also known as Shark, scourge of the d20).

Shark Dicebane has, I believe, become our groups mascot... she is always there, always cute, and pretty much everyone loves her...

and, I wonder if any of you all have *mascots* for your game...

whether pets, cartoon characters, or just figure-head go-get-'em icons that you would consider your macot?

If so, do tell! Share you stories!

(Couldn't help myself... I've attached a photo of Shark when only a kitten snuggling up with her favorite book... the DM's guide)

None of my groups do now, but back in the old days (insert old man voice there) one group I played in had one. We played at my buddy John's house and when we needed that critical hit (as in "being a turning point or specially important juncture" and not 3.x "do extra damage dice"), John would pick up his cat "Jedi" and set her in his lap, front paws on the table. Whoever needed the roll would then roll the die twords the cat and while still in motion the cat would wack it to the other end of the table, often knocking down the DM's screen. But dang if that cat didn't succeed most of the time! I swear she had a 90% success rate.

So you're saying she doesn't hold old-fashioned values and her campaign doesn't feature 23rd level Vallorean cohorts?

Bummer.

She sure is cute though. My kitty's name is Minnie and she's not very friendly due to living her entire life (4 years) in a share house. She's been there longer than any of the current inhabitants and I think she's learned the hard way that getting attached to people is just too painful.

Mascot, not really, but related to your cat theme.

My cat, Nottingham, seems to enjoy jumping in my chair thought moment I get up. Being the DM for the group, this often leads to the joke that he is the fill-in DM. Which wouldn't be bad, but he rolls better than I do most days. The players are freightened on occasion thinking I might allow his rolls, and one day I might!

The Savage Sword of....

We have a Mascot as well but in game. Meepo is the little Kobold who could.

He has reached a level (we're all epic now) that no other Kobold could dream of and leads his own country called "Kobold Country".

If you want more info just read Wizardru's story Hour.

Epic-level kobolds are cool.

My single favorite character in the Neverwinter Nights expansion packs was Deekin Scalesinger, who by the end of the game can be a 25th-level bard/dragon desciple.

Plus, it's really fun having a cohort who never turns down the opportunity to tell you how great and heroic you are. ;)

In game mascots are loads of fun, as well. Our group has a toothless hafling named Freckles... he's definately the DMs favorite character to do (he talks like the gopher in Winnie the Pooh cartoons--with the whistles and the like)...

In the beginning, one of our meaner characters MADE Freckles come with us... now, he hangs out because he likes us... or so we can hope... he's a wiley little guy with access to lots and lots of things that my character, the exalted Paladin, could never dream of... he's nice and evil... but, I'm hoping I'll be able to make him come around to the good side eventually.
