On a positive side: Unless I'm reading it wrong ppl are allowed to use all the mechanics behind skill challanges, monster creation and xp totals as long as they don't simply reprint them in a table format. Looks like monster creating scripts and other DM aids are legal.

Interesting tidbits:
No redefining terms, including alternative ability score generations.

Does this mean I cant have an alternative elf? That does not seem enforceable, as they dont own the term elf or the alternative mechanics I may create. In fact they cant even own the copyright to the mechanics themselves, only its names, and elf is not one of those names, but its in the srd.

maybe I am interpreting it wrong and getting angry over nothing. can someone clarify? Can I make my own elves in a companion setting I wish to publish under the 4e gsl.

You can make an elven subrace, and publish it.

But not an alternate elf.

Its not a copyright issue. Its a "You want to use our logo? This is what you can/can't do."

I don't agree with you. Stat blocks for monsters I already have in the MM are wasted space in a module. I'm paying money for them to reprint what I already have easy access to?
It's a matter of usability. Especially in 4E, where a single monster fits onto no more then half a page with all its powers described.

I love the 2-page encounter spreads in Keep on the Shadowfell.
I want Necromancer Games to create adventure path using the same layout. Currently, the only way they could do it is by creating each monster individually.

This isn't really new, if you look at 3/3.5 official adventures (e.g. Return to the Temple of EE as that's what I'm currently running) creatures in the MM are listed by name and page reference with HPs and kit.

I still think it is silly to have a game about killing things and taking their stuff, but to think of sex as something "bad". But that seems to be a common problem with foreign culture.

Well, if it avoids BOEF, I don't mind. It just wasn't good. If I want a book about sex and erotic, give me sexy artwork, not leather fetish. ;)

The double standards is an old, strange thing that I guess we can only hope will change over time. In which direction it changes is another matter... ;)

Oh, and I remember correctly, the d20 License had these limitations added around the time of the BOEF publishing, but I can't remember the timing. Even though I remember the topic was discussed many months ago....

Sure. It was not meant as a comment about the BOEF but more a general remark. I found the BOEF interesting but not really great.

They were added because of the BOEF if I remember correctly. That was the reason that the BOEF isn't a d20 product.

Exactly. I started running KotS yesterday, and having all the information I needed on those two pages, was extremely useful for me.
