GSL Update 12/18/08

That there's a sleddin' hill.

Body-sledding, yo. When I lived up in Washington 10 years ago, I used to strap on a pair of metal knee-pads, steel-toed boots, wool gloves with chainmail gloves over them and go sliding on my knees down those hills. So much fun.

I love snow, but I hate living in it.

Off Topic (or not :p ): I know it must seem odd to northern/great plains folk when the rest of us shut down for what must seem like a light frost. Likewise, in the south, we'll shake our heads in wonder when we hear how nasty mere 90F temps are to you in the summer...

I'd rather have your 4 feet of fluffy snow than a quarter inch of semi-visible ice, which is all we seem to get when one of these 'Canadian' air masses make it this far south. ;)

And here I am just being glad that California is finally starting to get real rain this year... Over the last couple years, we didn't even really get snow on the tops of the Sierra Nevada mountains, so there has been all kinds of water shortages in the state.

In terms of cold weather, the only notable issue is that it is getting a bit cold, so it is just worthwhile to wear a jacket during the day and is dipping below freezing at night.

It has only snowed once in living memory where I live (a weak flurry lasting only a couple minutes or so), and people were stopping what they were doing to wander out and stare in awe at the oddity of it all. If we actually got something like a foot of snow, not only would it be completely debilitating, people would consider it either a miracle or a sign of the apocalypse, and either way the town would be shut down completely.

After last winter and the start of this winter, I'm getting to the point where I'm expecting 4-8 inches of snow a day as an everyday occurrence.
