GTAIV: Most Over-Hyped Game Ever? Maybe.

My name is Arnwyn, and I endorse this message.

I agree, multiplayer is great, but as someone who does not have many people to play games with for most of the year, it is a pain. Then again, I do find myself enjoying games that are primarily intended to be multiplayer by myself(Super Smash Bros. Brawl).

I reached one of those GTA humps where the missions are too much of a pain in the neck to keep replaying.

There's a mission where I'm supposed to follow some guys on a subway in my car.

There's another where I have to catch some guy who takes off on a bike and he has a major head start before I even get a vehicle.

Then there's another where I have to place first in a race, and the driving controls are so wonky that the race car is constantly going into uncontrollable spins.

In all cases, you're one snag away from failing the mission. My frustration level has to dip a little before I pick it back up again. Wouldn't be so bad if they had a checkpoint to restart from, rather than restarting all the way back at the contact's HQ.

Ah, I feel for you. I hate it when that happens...

I agree with the biker mission as it was a real pain, but with the other two you really don't need to drive very fast and still beat it easily. But this game indeed is full of missions that are horribly long and propable to go wrong right before you finish. The freaking bank-heist got me bored to the game for two days...

I was undoubtedly rushing too much on the subway mission (and that's one that ought to be done in the day time to avoid running up some dead end thinking it's a street).

The racing mission, I just don't know what to say other than it ain't about speed. It's got more to do with losing control of the vehicle.

Agreed - the first race was the toughest - control is more important than speed. The subway mission took me three tries - I ran up a dead end very near the end of following it. I found that a motorcycle was the best vehicle for that particular mission.

For all of the chase missions, I've found that slow and steady wins the race; except for one where he got to his house before I coudl get him, they've tended to run into traffic issues at some point (although most of the runners are very good at avoiding them) and that gives me a chance to finish them off.

I played for about 10 hours yesterday...
