I know, I edited a few of his books (the Year's Best SF series). I also worked on a few issues of the NY Review of SF which he self publishes. My wife also worked with him at Tor.

He's actually not that bad of a guy once you get to know him. Very strange, yes, but not too bad. He can be very generous, he invited Laura & I to the Hugo Losers party as his guests at the WorldCon in Baltimore.

There was a big difference working with him on the pro side (as the editor of his book) and the personal side (working with him on the NY Review & at the conventions). So, I can understand what you are saying, and still think he's an OK guy. His kids, on the other hand, are REALLY bizarre.

He also has the largest SF collection I've ever seen, probably in the 500,000+ volumes range. His house is LITERALLY wall to wall with stacks of books. The garage is full to the point where you can't walk through it becasue of all the boxes. If there was ever a fire, the house would probably explode in seconds there is so much paper in it...
